John gave me the body which had been badly butchered by some "luthier", who then proceeded to paint it the wrong color. I gradually compiled parts to finish it. I believe it is a modified Warmoth.

Mighty Mite Jazz neck (w/custom decal), TB+ pups, Schaller bridge, which was a $$$ compromise, but I like 'em and had one sittin around, Hipshot Ultralights w/D-tuner.....

Gibson Basses / Re: BaCHbird

It's here. I had to pick it up at the post office and I was worried that it was broken in shipment as the box was angled mid section of the neck, I drove home bummed sure it was broken. To my relief the bass was in one piece when I opened it up  :) OMG is all I can say, what a fantastic job Roman and Bach have done. I felt instantly at home on this bass, it just feels right. Of course I'd say that NRs being my bass of choice for so many years. My first thought is if you are looking for a non reverse Thunderbird don't waste your $ on a vintage Gibson. I am so impressed with the neck, beautiful slab of rosewood, the frets are dressed very nicely, the profile feels right and man is it straight !

+1 on all of that for me! Now let's get those pickguards going!  ;)

Well, if you remember those bands, then you must have heard of The Boyzz, The Hounds, Buster, Europe, Trillion, Cincinnati Bombers...

Those were my Chicago club years.  The "Hot Love" video that came with the DVD in Special One was shot at The Night Gallery.

I remember the Boyzz and Hounds. Trillion too - weren't they kind of prog???

The first two CT albums came out the year I started playing bass. They were unlike anything I'd ever seen or heard. I was a total KISS geek at the time, and they had a lot of those same pop meets metal qualities. Petersson's bass tone was, again, unlike anything I'd ever heard. I hadn't discovered Entwistle yet, and it would be years later before I realized what a huge influence the Who had on CT. I still remember the first time I heard Surrender on the radio. Went and got the 8 track and blasted that in the under-dash 8 track player in my cousin's car all summer.  ;D

The thing that set them apart from other power pop bands was Nielson's sinister lyrical edge. He snuck a lot of social commentary into some cute pop ditties. None of the local bands that followed did anything for me - Off Broadway, the Kind, Enuff Z'Nuff......  :bored:

I'm going to buy this new record.

Mick is definitely playing better than ever in my opinion. I've never paid a whole lot of attention to the Crue - I've got the first two on vinyl, which is probably all anyone really needs. I always thought he was the weak link, but he seems very "on" in all the recent footage I've seen. Seems like a nice person too. I feel bad for all the pain he's had to go through, and then the obligatory addiction to pain killers. Vince's voice is amazingly the same as it ever was. Like it or not, he's got his "style". I saw something on VH1 Classic about them getting back together to record their last album. There was footage of him tracking vocals and it was pretty cool to watch/listen to. Tommy Lee kicks ass when he's drumming, and Nikki has written a good pop/metal ditty or three.

I've rarely seen a fourpiece (with the singer only playing rhythm guitar on two or three songs) with as full and massive a sound.

Backing tracks. I've heard from production guys out with the Crue that there are parts where Nikki can take his hands off the bass, and the bass keeps coming out of the speakers. Lots of subtle sweetening going on all around apparently.

I guess actually playing everything the audience hears went out with good riffs? Industrial rock and dance bands obviously need tracks. But a four piece rock band? That's weak. There's a very popular local cover band here in Chicago that uses massive tracks live, and nobody seems to care. They get to the chorus of any given song, and all of a sudden it's like, "hey, who turned on the radio?" They do sound Heavenly though!  ;)

Improves balance for sure. I was nervous too, but seem to have done OK with the stock Schaller strap lock screw.

Looks like you got the early "thick body" Bbird. Nice mods. I was initially planning to add a second pup, but I think I'm good with just the one chromified TB+ and some good pots/jack. I thought you had a pickguard with the bird on it?

There's a guy on ebay who always seems to have some of those Gibson TRCs available. That's where I got mine.

I put a piece of white electrical tape over the BaCH logo for now. It's barely noticeable.  8)

He's f*ckin great. Queen was a huge band for me when I started playing bass - Day at the Races was the current album. Very underrated bass player. And he wrote some great songs too. You're My Best Friend is one of the best love songs ever.  ;D
