The Outpost Cafe / asking for help, guitarist magazine
« on: April 24, 2019, 07:04:10 AM »
Hi,
I have a favour to ask, does anyone have a subscription to a guitar magazine that allows searchable reference to online back issues. I need to find an issue that has a review of the DS-1

its a Uni assignment where I have to do a compare and contrast piece based on 4 reviews of an effect. Ive just found out that one of them has to be hardcopy (book, magazine etc.)

I thought I could search online for the right issue  then get it on back order or second hand from ebay ...
turns out its hard to search issues without having a subscription

can anyone help ?

Greta obviously fill a void for younger rock listeners who want to hear classic rock, but not see middle-aged men/senior citizens. If that gets them away from non-rock bands or the umpteenth shoegazer music combo, then I wouldn't mind if there were another dozen Gretas. Bring'em on.

hhmmm way I've heard tell is their audiences are full of older guys congratulating themselves on following a "younger" band
just hearsay mind, they haven't toured over here so I've yet to see them (or their audience)

Thanks for all the help guys

Headphones is out of the question?
yeah I will probably be using them a lot but occasionally I want to make a bit of noise

Our drummer has his 2nd electric kit setup in our music room with a single powered PA speaker... runs fine through that... can check models if you wish...?
Thanks for the offer but no need. I used powered floor wedges to run the e-kit at the school so I know that is an option

The bass amp will probably give low end thump, but a guitar amp will not be the best for cymbals. A guitar amp is more of a midrange amp, and even if has eq the speaker is not likely to sound good over 7khz. A bass amp with a horn will probably be better, but you can always give it a try.

I don't know what the output of the drums is, but if you have a line level output you might have some issues plugging into normal guitar amp inputs. Check if you have a line in somewhere on your amps if that's the case.

I tried the school one through an old HH 150W bass combo, nice thump but I could hardly hear the cymbals cant remember if it had a horn

interesting that a guitar is only midrange tho, thanks for that. my guitar amp has a CD input so that should be ok (and bypass the gain/crunch)

The main thing is that I don't really have room for another speaker (the spare bedroom is going to be losing the spare bed just to fit in the drumkit) or currently the finances for full range amp  amp so I want to make do with the amps that are currently there.

I just wanted to check I wasn't going to damage anything by running the signal to two very mismatched amps

can I ask some advice of you amp guys on something not on bass topic?

I've just got an electric drumkit for home practice, so I was wondering, it has a stereo output, can I put one channel each into a 100W peavey bass combo and a 15W Marshall practice amp to give me good definition of both Hi and Low frequencies?

Not gonna really driving them hard, like I say home practice, but I'd like the kick to thump and the brassware to sizzle and there is no room in the room for another Amp. Can I  damage anything by driving different rated  amps ?

even better, shes the bass player usually
I think that's her natural voice as she sounds like that on all the other songs, unfortunately the original stuff they do doesn't seem as inspired as their covers
I wasnt grabbed by the guitarist on the Dio tune but I really like his take on sandman using pinched harmonics

more children doing Classic rock, the singer has quite a voice on her, although she does seem to be channeling Anne Wilson in her prime

following the same story, there seems to be a spate of cat abuse around the area and the fox hypothesis doesn't hold much water, fox will eat what it kills not just cut its throat and leave it (yes i know a fox in a hen house will kill every one, but it eats its fill before leaving the rest)
unfortunately there also seems to be copycat(ouch) killings going on in different places too. there is a spate in my manor at the moment. some good friends recently had their cat vanish, distressing enough, but then the next door neighbors cat was also found on the doorstep with its throat cut, lots more reports of this going on, there are some very sick people

This has saddened me so deeply, the first of these celebrity passings that I actually knew.

My first big break in the touring world was SAHB and their band and crew, all in it together family attitude really did me no favours in preparing for working with other acts. and I was always glad to get back to their annual Christmas tour

Of these Chris and Ted were the most kind and welcoming individuals you could ever meet. Like two big cuddly rock'n'roll uncles they took me under their wing and showed me the ropes. Ted was the complete antithesis to the rock star cliche, he was one of the most generous, hilarious and intelligent people I have ever had the honour of working with.

I'd just like to share my favourite Ted Mckenna story:
halfway through a tour the drum tech came up and said "check this out, I haven't changed the snare skin yet this tour, look at that..." the stick marks on the skin covered a small circle no bigger than a 50p piece from 2 weeks of gigging every single shot he had played on the snare had been that precise...

farewell big man, the world is a poorer place without you
