I have a diagram in PDF from my Lotto, which seems to be what you want: push/pull (switches) directly after the humbuckers for each of them. Only, I don't know how to share a PDF with you, besides email. Suggestions?  :rolleyes:

Last thursday Sven and I have met, and we've compared some dangerous Fender Bucker monsters  8)

Compared it with my Lotto and with his Perencaster (translated: Pearcaster), and the earth rumbled. This Humbucking-P has a lot of that thick lows, but with a nice punch. Terrific bass!

The proof  ;)

The JagBird is such a killer-bass, it's the best project I've done ever. So I have already made plans for a second JagBird.  8)

This time:
* same bodyshape and mahogany
* Allparts maple Jazzneck black blocks and binding
* ChiSonic CS4 Humbuckers
* Finish: British Racing Green  8)

Very nice project, for sure for this money.  :)

One thing: I really think you will be having a problem with the output/stringbalance. The bucker at the bridge isn't that well suited for this kind of stringspacing (unless this bridge can be adjusted for smaller spacing). I've done a "JazzBird" in the past with a mudbucker on the position of the neck-Jazzpup, and with that project I noticed that the E and G string had far less output.

I found a way to fix this for the biggest part, the trick is to extend the magnetic field. This was later called by Rob (Basvarken) as the "Nail-That-Tone" method  :mrgreen:

This is what I've used for years: http://www.voxhumanawebstore.nl/webstore/product_info.php?cPath=373_379&products_id=3463

Cheap and reliable, it works júst right.  8)

Welcome !!

I am in the process of starting up a lotto bass build.  very similar to this mod except the bridge pickup is slightly further back.   I was actually thinking the lotto spot may be too far back.  how does your bridge pickup sound solo and both together.  I will probably go with a larger guard so i may just route a huge hole and slide it around to find the sweetest spot.

here is the stock lotto picture

Beautiful plan, Jim!  8)  You won't regret it. My luthier described the sound after the first notes: "it sound like a good Precision-with-a-big-Ampeg-stack"  :mrgreen:

PeterB (Boer) has been buying whole batches of them. Single coil Chi-Sonics, humbucker Chi-Sonics, J-Sonics. All from Hanson. He is on holiday now, but when he return he can most certainly answer your questions Carlo.

That's right. I've bougth several batches direktly from (Bo) Hanson. I started with the first batch early this year, when I ordered 9 sets. Enough to got a far better price. Bo agreed to this price for all my future orders, so if you need some.... ;)

I just love ChiSonics, they look great, have a beautiful old-skool growly midrange, big lows and just enought highs. My Jazz with ChiSonics has turned out to be my most expressive bass. Played soft, it can be very subtile, and when you dig in firmly, it becomes a monster.  8)

Tnx! I'll experiment with a pickguard later, but I like this look also. Make it classy without.

And no, forgot the pics of the back. I'll take some later today.

@ Rob: you'll see him over a few hours, I'm taking it with me.  ;)

The JagBird is ready!!  8)

The sound: deep, dark midrange with a nice growl. Huge sustain, big powerfull tone. And the playability is perfect, I've set the string-spacing to a narrow 16 mm, which allows very fast playing. Balance of the bass is better that I expected: with a normal strap no neckdive, just perfect.

Thanks!

Rob's suggestion is exactly my original plan for this bass: just V/V/T in T-Bird layout with that knobs.

What also crossed my mind is:
* no controls, just solder them straigt to the jack (I mostly play with both pups full open);
* two controls, but on the backside in the backplate, and then 2 "rollerknobs" for V and T, build in just as on a Jaguar bass, and one toggleswitch on the front:

Decisions, decisions, decisions........

The project is almost done......now I'm thinking what to do with the controls before I drill the holes. Even thought just soldering the pickups direct to the jack.

I've set the string-spacing to a narrow 16 mm. Very fast playing.

With the string-through and the sum of all the quality parts, this bass already sounds véry loud acousticly.  8)

I'd say: no F-hole! I think it looks better without, less is more.  ;)

Thanks Rob,.....you're right: I'd better hurry, this one will rock harder than a Vuvuzela  :mrgreen:

Orange 'n Black, always a good choice...

Thank you all for the compliments.  :)  I'm very pleased with it already now, although it still needs a lot of work.

Regarding the nut: you're absolutely right about that. I've bought the neck this way, but I'm planning to replace the nut. The spacing is too tight ánd the cut for the A string is too deep (uneven compared to the other cuts), bad job from the luthier who installed the neck for the previous owner. And it should fit over the binding.
