Ouch! Good luck with that. You're not doing it out in the cold, are you? I even hated working on my car in Southern California winters. Pain from busted knuckles grows exponentially with the drop in temperatures below 70 degrees...

Working on cars on a cold winter day in Minnesota is a bit worse.  8) I don't think cold hand tools ever warm up some days, no mater how long you preheat the garage, at least you don't sweat much!

The Bass Zone / Re: Upright Basses

These just popped up on Craigslist,  http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/msg/1562316277.html  .
I wonder if they are the origional tooling for upright basses from the old Epiphone factory. When Gibson bought Epiphone in about 1956, they were after the upright bass tooling. They were unaware that they had purchased the guitar part of the company also.

I've never heared the TBI album, I can let you know when it comes. The people that reviewed it, didn't like it as well as BLT. Another album that I liked, was BBM. Bruce Baker & Moore. Gary Moore was a good fit for that power trio sound. I think it was recorded about 1995.

I just purchased it on CD, found it on ebay. It's a double album. The second album is a group called TRUCE, Trower Bruce & Isidore? Never heard of this one. Another album I never thought I'd see on CD!

This reminded me of an old album I picked up used years ago. It's from 1981 "BLT" (Bruce Lordan & Trower).
Is this the first time they've played together since BLT?

Gibson Basses / Re: More NR goodness

I bought an amp from Mike when he was first starting out, I think he was in Kentucky at that time, sounded like he was selling out of his home. He didn't know how to do a credit card sale over the phone yet. He advertised on JK Lutherie's free newsletter. It looked like he dumped his garbage can in the box with the amp, a lot of the packing was peoples carbons from credit card sales. He's come along way from those days. He had a EBSF-1250 refine that I still wish I had bit on.

About 15 years ago, I rebought a few of my albums that were either lost or stolen, at a local used album store. I didn't think "West Bruce & Lang" Why Doncha or Mountain Flowers of Evil would ever be sold on CD. About five years later they were. I still have a few oddball recordings that may never get digitally remastered. I keep my turntable around for them. I did give up on my pile of 8-Tracks........they sound like crap!

One of my son's friends wears shorts in any weather, even 25 below. I'm not sure whether to blame it on his being a drummer or being from Coon Rapids or both. .

I'm just across the river in Champlin, it must be because he's a drummer... :rimshot:

It's been damn cold here in Minnesota for the last two weeks or longer....... Today, it is suppose to get up to about 20 F, later in the week 30 F. Minnesotans walk around without jackets or with their jackets wide open in this kind of weather. It's hard on a Gibson guitars & basses with nitro finishes. Many guitars in our shops are Minnesota mint! In great condition except for finish cracks from cold temps. Not letting the temperature of the guitar warm up slow enough before taking it out of the case. One local shop lets the guitar sit eight hours before opening it after it's delivered in this cold.  8) 8)

The same doctors that perform Colonoscopy's also do Endoscopy's (spelling?). Pretty much the same thing, just down the other end. A co-worker was scheduled for a Colonoscopy at 6:00 & my wife was scheduled for an Endoscopy about two hours later with the same doctor. My smart ass comments about wondering if the doctor cleaned it off in between procedures was not appreciated much.... :puke:

Gibson Basses / LP-1 Pre-amp
« on: January 05, 2010, 03:35:29 PM »
This might be a pretty good deal on a LP-1, for anyone that might be interested............
http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-GIBSON-LP-1-PRE-AMP-HEAD-late-60s-early-70s_W0QQitemZ110437762012QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item19b69a83dc
I bought my first one for twice the asking price of this one, & ended up with one for around $50.00 including shipping several years later......... They work well with a Gibson Plus 50 powered cabnet, or any powered speaker enclosure. This is the pre-amp designed to go with the early Les Paul low impedance basses & guitars. The powered speaker seems much harder to come by than the pre-amp. I paid the asking price for this head for shipping on the complete amp, & that was a bargin!

I was recertified a few years back, (Perfect A__ Hole)! The prep, as many have mentioned, is the only bad part. I only wish that somebody would have mentioned to aply vasoline or something to your backside before it was raw from blowing out a couple gallons of go-litely from it. By the time you figure that out, it's too late. A good friend of my wife found out a few months ago that she had stage 4 colon cancer. She is only 42 years old, 8 years younger than most of us get our first checkup. It had spread to her lungs & she had a nasty cough, that's how they ended up finding out about it. As un-pleasant as this procedure is, it is better than the alternative.  :o :o :o
