Gibson Basses / Wanted: Orville Thunderbird pickups.
« on: March 01, 2009, 02:06:22 PM »
Anybody have any of these laying around????? Thanks!

So do you suppose that they would sound like the Orville thunderbird pickups???

1315
The pickups I'm talking about are the ones that are usually in newer Les Paul Basses, pickups look like chrome covered guitar humbuckers with either black or cream rings. How do these sound? What is the output??? 10K? Are these like the thunderbird pickups?? I have a 1985 Hamer 8 string bass and was wondering if these would be cool.

Gibson Basses / Re: Gibson Thunderbird laminate Thickness
« on: February 22, 2009, 06:50:19 PM »
Thanks, but I meant, does anybody know the thickness of the 4 Walnut strips and the 5 individual Mahogany strips??? I'd like to know the official specs to get wood planed to those specs. I don't even know if anyone "Officially" knows this data. Thanks!

Uwe, Just have them put one beefy truss rod in it and it should be fine. From what I know of Ric's after owning a few...Some are good...but a lot of them have that crappy folded trussrod system and I have seem many people remove the fretboard, fill it with wood and reroute for a Normal truss rod. In any case..I still love the dot neck Ric's. A sound of their own. But Not even close to a 60's Thunderbird. Tom, one of these days, when I can drive again, I'll have to swing by with my 8 string. I'd even love to swap for a run in the studio. Mercado is going to remaster one of our first songs so we will be definitely recording with him in the future. Would LOVE to try it for a song or 2. I fantasize about what they must sound like!!!!
