The Outpost Cafe / Woodstock 40th Anniversary
« on: July 16, 2009, 02:55:32 AM »
Yes, it was 4 decades ago & still seems pretty fokkin amazing!
There's some pretty cool memorabilia to be had.
Cool to see some of the bands that didn't make it to the movie.
Mountain was good:

Just found out tonight that Corky Laing was just their roadie at Woodstock!

I went to the West Coast version which was not even half the people.
Newport '69 @ Devonshire Downs in Northridge, California was a 3 day festival too.
It was weak tho. Saw Hendrix but he SUCKED. He'd gotten busted just before going on & was stoned out & weirded out. Alas
I saw the movie 10 times tho with all my friends & girlfriends from school.
My bud Steve who's the guitarist in my 2 bands saw it all.
He said MOUNTAIN was his fav next to Hendrix!!
I have the whole Hendrix set on video. Highly recommended

The Outpost Cafe / Fav Lyrics

Post your fav lyrics! Can be just a line or the whole song.
I'm gonna start with a whole song. Youtube clips are good to add if you can find 'em.

A Martyr For My Love For You by Jack White & John Anthony

She was sixteen and six feet tall
in a crowd of teenagers comin' out of the zoo
She stumbled started to slip and fall
teeter-tottered on the top of patent leather shoes
I happened to catch her and said,
"Maybe these ruby shoes are a little cumbersome for you"

Maybe for you, now

But not as shaky as I must have seemed
talkin' junk through her giggle -- little teenage dream
And on the phone I could not compete
my dumb-love fake competence was getting weak
For a sec' I thought I sounded sweet
but sure 'nough in a gruff, faint voice
I heard myself speak

I could stay a while
but sooner or later I'd break your smile
And I could tell a joke
but one of these days you'd be bound to choke
And we could share a kiss
but I feel like I can't go through with this
And I bet we could build a home
but I know the right thing for me to do
Is to leave you alone

Leave you alone, now

I'm beginning to like you
so you probably won't get what I'm going to do
I'm walkin' away from you
it probably don't make much sense to you
But I'm trying to save you
from all of the things that I'll probably say or do

Probably do

I could stay a while
but sooner or later I'd break your smile
And I could tell a joke
but one of these days you'd be bound to choke
And we might share a kiss
but I feel like I can't go through with this
And I bet we could build a home
but I know the right thing for me to do
Is to leave you alone

Leave you alone, now

You probably call me a fool
and say I'm doin' exactly what a coward would do
And I'm beginning to like you
it's a shame; what a lame way to live
But what can I co
I hope you appreciate what I do

I'm a martyr for my love for you
A martyr for my love for you, now
A martyr for my love for you
A martyr for my love for you

It's a guitar; see this thread:

Hey Gary~ Congratulations on getting your Scroll bass!
Give us a thorough review, willya?
Too bad someone had to cancel their order (like I might) but that's goood for you.
I'm still tryin' to decide whether I want one fretless or not.
I guess fretless is the way to go to get that URB sound.
If I can get a good URB sound & a good Boz Burrell Bad Co. sound I'll be stoked!!

Previews of Public Enemies look real goood. Depp as Dillinger!

Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards stars Pitt & looks intriguing:

Numero Uno for me is Scatterbrain's Don't Call Me Dude--it's not only clever but pretty good an' HEAVY ROCK.
Here's the video that got Heavy Rotation on Mtv:

Got to meet Scatterbrain one day in '91 when they walked into a little cafe on Hollywood Blvd. where I often had breakfast.
I pointed at the singer & said "Dude!"
He pulled his hair & made like he was goin' nuts & said "Dude? DUDE?"
Pretty FUN! Btw~ Their 2nd album was called BIG FUN...it wasn't so good or fun.

Here's anuzza hilarious one off their 1990 cd Here Comes Trouble:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qze06...eature=related

How did they get away with using all those famous riffs? Couldn't they have been sued for that?
If not, it's a clever way to use all those riffs from covers they learned to make their own cool song!!!!!

The Bass Zone / Cool Picking Technique
« on: May 25, 2009, 06:37:40 AM »
Doin' some cool riffin' on bass that's kinda hard to describe; pickin' up & down but not with a pick, with my index finger & thumb pressed together using my fingernail like a pick.
Gives you nice tight control & you get a real good LOUD galloping effect! Can't wait to combine it with some marching snare!! ...& a guitarist strumming chords to match!!!
Maybe I'll make a youtube instructional vid soon so you can see what I mean...

The Bass Zone / Tony Franklin~Freakshow & Wonderland
« on: May 17, 2009, 02:09:13 AM »
Good to know that Tony is doing something besides waiting for a Blue Murder or FIRM reunion, but it seems he's really dumbed down his playing in this band Freakshow:

http://www.myspace.com/freakshowrox

The singer sounds annoying to me, like if you put all the 80s glam band singers in a blender & hit cliche frappe.

In other news, Tony's WONDERLAND cd is WONDERFUL, available only as an IMPORT from Japan.
Tony's playing is amazing on this disc!

The Bass Zone / Bad Co. Bassplayer
« on: May 16, 2009, 12:20:25 AM »
Paul Rodgers & Queen have parted ways & now Bad Co. has reformed with Paul Rodgers singing & Simon Kirke on drums & Mick Ralphs on guitar & keyboards!!!
Also on guitar is Howard Leese--THE Howard Leese who ROCKED with Heart for over 30 years.
Lynn Sorensen on Bass
Check out his site- www.lynnsorensen.com
He seems very cool & qualified to fill Boz Burrell's shoes tho he doesn't play fretless. Oh well

So far just 10 east coast gigs are lined up.

Guitars Etc. / Gretsch Billy Bo
« on: May 06, 2009, 02:16:13 AM »
There's a LEFTY on ebay right now!

Sure is a beaut but if you look at the back of the headstock it says MADE IN JAPAN.
I think that's why I passed on buyin' one new when I had the chance a coupla years ago, but for half price I'd love to grab it like a rabbit!
I'd own this & this Elliot Easton SG if I didn't just buy that Zemaitis!!

I'm happy with my Z but this Billy Bo would be great for playin' ZZ TOP toons
...& White Stripes. lol
This SG would be good for slide--Duane Allman toons.
Oh well~ they say you can't have everything. I guess that's true for everyone.
...everyone except God. He owns it ALL!
