The Outpost Cafe / Calling our Nederlands friends
« on: March 17, 2011, 02:36:18 PM »
At 1:53 into this disturbing news story, a bass guitar is seen in the home of the 37yo Dutch ringleader of this global peodophile ring.  Rob/Chris, if you meet this local 37yo bass player, kick him in the nuts for me, thanks  >:(

The Bass Zone / Doing my bit for disaster recovery
« on: March 06, 2011, 02:57:11 PM »
Some of you might be aware of the floods that inundated two States here, causing damage and fatalities across an area bigger than Texas or several European countries combined.  There have been a lot of fundraising concerts to raise money for the victims and rebuilding infrastructure, and I played at a small one a few weeks ago with my blues trio.

On the weekend the Stones tribute played a larger event with 12 other bands (13 bands in 11 hours) that raised just under $5500.  Here's a couple of photos ....

Bass Amps & Effects / Epifani UL 610 - anybody played one?
« on: February 16, 2011, 08:47:59 PM »
There's a great deal on a used one locally, and I'm close to pulling the trigger.  Does dialling the tweeter out give them a reasonable "old school" sound?

"It was amazing to meet a music legend like George Michael," was all that Sheridan revealed to Confidential about the meeting yesterday.

It is understood Sheridan was introduced to Michael by Hemmes who, ever the gracious host, kept the boys well-lubricated throughout the night.

Bwahahahahahaahahaha!!!!!!

The Bass Zone / Rare concert photo: long scale bass, no wig
« on: February 14, 2011, 03:12:02 PM »
We played a fundraising concert on Sunday for the Flood Relief Appeal here.  Was nice to play a gig with a long scale bass and without a wig  [smilie=music-smiley-005.gif]

We took our first wedding booking today.  Nice venue, I'm guessing we'll be well fed ... http://simmeronthebay.com.au

But, in even more interesting news, we're heading to Singapore again, in June - this time we're playing two shows at http://www.beerfestasia.com/index.php

Looks like a good room to play ....

The Bass Zone / my Singapore tour gig pics
« on: December 09, 2010, 03:03:05 AM »
Guys, I'm just checking in briefly at an internet cafe half way through our 6 gig tour of Singapore.  I'll touch base properly when I'm back next week, but in the meantime here's a link to our Facebook photo album documenting the gigs ....

Other Bass Brands / RED Greco bird at Ishibashi c.$500 + shipping
« on: November 24, 2010, 04:06:42 PM »
At this price I'm guessing the red is a refin, as I've only ever seen sunburst, black and white in the Greco birds.

The Bass Zone / Gig pics from Saturday night. Pub rock, Australian style
« on: November 14, 2010, 04:06:37 PM »
This pub we play on Saturday night reminded me of every place I gigged in during the 1980s.  As soon as I walked in there was the familiar and reassuring odour of beer in the carpet - this was a true *rock* venue.  The 8-ball table made an excellent dance floor for some people.  I snapped some pics with my cell phone during set up.  I had my SVT-7 Pro (on the floor leaning up against my cab) and Markbass CL152 (sitting underneath the fake SVT head I built - on the other hand, the guitarists' heads are real Ampegs - a V2 and a Gemini)
