The Outpost Cafe / NAMM 2010
« on: December 30, 2009, 02:28:37 PM »
Looks like I'll be going again! My IN is thru my drummer in GODBROTHERS.
He says I've got a pass! So hopefully I won't be busy moving like I was last time.
I will soon have a warehouse space to build a new studio in....

My friends HumanLab will be performing at the Martin booth on Sat. & Michael hopes they'll give him a Martin to play & hopefully he'll get to keep it.
His Fender acoustic is 20 years old & looks almost like Willie Nelson's! Hole-y!

Hope to see some of you there! Jan. 14 - 17

So there will be even more than usual!

Be careful!!

Happy New Year! Have a ROCKIN' one!
I'm going club hopping! Not driving, just walking.

The Bass Zone / Stephen Stills, Bassplayer
« on: December 28, 2009, 11:33:04 PM »
Man, I can't believe it took forty years for me to notice who the great bassplayer is on Crosby, Stills & Nash!!!
Stills KILLS on Suite Bluedy Jew Eyes
Sorry, I had a Jewish girlfriend back in high school who I took to see CSNY.  :P
By that time they'd recruited Greg Reeves on bass.
He was great too!!

The Outpost Cafe / AVATAR in 3D!!!
« on: December 18, 2009, 11:54:27 AM »
Holy Flying Fokk!

This movie raises the bar of moviemaking so high that even the upcoming Alice In Wonderland pales in comparison & I can say that with some authority cuz I just saw the new trailer for Wonderland in 3D before getting my mind completely blown by James Cameron's new MASTERPIECE!
He sank a boatload haha of money into this one--a quarter billion!!!! & got some unbelievable results.

If you don't go see this in 3D in a big IMAX theater you'll be kickin' yourself in the arse for the rest of your life!
Saw the midnight showing last night & I'm gonna see it again tonight!!
I'll say more about it tomorrow....

The Outpost Cafe / Tendonitis
« on: November 28, 2009, 11:10:46 PM »
Luke, a guitarplayer friend has tendonitis. Someone just told me that jello cures it.
He said that it worked real fast for him.
Anyone else ever try this?
What other solutions are there? ???

The Outpost Cafe / The Ultimate Gig Van
« on: November 26, 2009, 12:22:28 AM »
Fell in LOVE with the big Mercedes van & then discovered that Dodge makes one almost exactly like it called a Sprinter.
They're Class 2 & hold up to 10k lbs. with 13 & a half feet of space & a nice high roof most of you could stand in. Not me, I'm 6'5" but there's one here at the Dodge dealership in Surf City with an extended roof. Cooool  8)

Most of 'em are white & thus look like a big blank canvas to this airbrush artist but I've seen some black ones online & they look BADASS!!!
I'd love to do some Heavy Metal murals on a black one!!!

Anyone got one yet?

5 cyl. TURBO Diesel 20+ mpg

Gotta have one!

I'm livin' in my little Ford Econoline Exexcutive conversion van & it ain't too bad but I'd LOVE a Mercedes or even a Dodge SuperDuperVan!!

I will definitely have one SOON.....

The Bass Zone / Upright Basses
« on: November 19, 2009, 06:24:42 PM »
Figured since there ain't an upright bass category on this forum we could use a good thread about 'em.

I've been diggin' this band in Surf City called Human Lab. They don't play Surf Music.
They sound more like a 60s band...the Youngbloods. They ARE youngbloods too!!
The leader, Michael Medlin, sounds like Jesse Colin Young & his girl, Miriam, & her sis Xiona Folk from Montana add beautiful vocal harmonies & percussion.
Billy Bass left the band so Marco the drummer switched to upright bass & Miriam plays it on one song while Marco plays accordion.
They're both gettin' real good for young beginners!!
Luke is gettin' damn good on his Tele with a Strat neck tooo
I'm gonna join 'em on drums for awhile. I love them & their songs & music!!!

www.myspace.com/humanlab

Ain't they good? They're my fav band in Orange County.

I still want a full length upright someday. It'd be SO cool to have an instrument the same height as me--6'5"!

I reckon the Bruce Johnson Ampeg Scroll will satisfy my desire for an upright sound tho, once I get the one I ordered 2 years ago in my hot little hands!!
It'll be fretless & have 2 pickups--one for an upright sound & one for a Boz Burrell BAD CO. sound!!

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Some Guys Buy For Fins
« on: September 08, 2009, 06:34:15 AM »
Someone oughta make a bass with an actual '59 Cadillac fin stickin' up off it!
Have the tailight light up when it's plugged in!
Uwe wouldn't buy it cuz he doesn't buy for fins. lol
....but seriously, maybe he would buy one if the fin was mahogany with just the tailight stuck on.

It's the Billy Bo Jupiter Thunderbird that got me thinking this way.

http://www.gbase.com/gear/gretsch-g6199b-billy-bo-jupiter-red

These are Made In Japan & look at that price tag!
Bet one of you fuggers could make me a lefty one for just a grand, even with a much bigger fin & a working '59 Caddy tailight added, huh?

I guess it'd be pretty big an' HEAVY. So maybe make the tailight half size somehow.
Altho these are mahogany they are chambered so they're light.
So maybe it wouldn't be too heavy even with a full size tailight.

Just an idea.   8)
