Title: Gibson cheats winner, because of Hip Hop?

Why, you ask? Remember that whole Lollapalooza ‘Last Band Standing’ competition I won back in 2006? Well, Lollapalooza came through 100% on their end of the prize package – but apparently the people over at Gibson don’t feel they need to cater to Hip Hop artists.

Pretty bad if true. Seems like a lawsuit would be in order?

Sorry, but this assclown guy is way out of line. The value of prize packages of goods or services are always based on MSRP. Always. Go back and look at all the Bass Player giveaways, or any non-cash prizes for any contest, game show etc. The stated value will always be derived from a list price, not a discounted price from a retailer.

If this guy had understood and accepted that from the beginning, he'd have had his merchandise back in the summer of 2006.

Lawsuit? Yeah. Henry J. ought to sue him for libel.

The guy sounds like quite a whiner to me.  Surely, there is a better way to deal with the issue than the way he is going about it.  I don't know exactly what I'd do in the situation, but I'm pretty sure I could come up with something better than that.  He acts more like an aggrieved employee who has had his wages withheld than a contest winner in a dispute over a prize.

Sorry, but the guy sounds like an idiot. MSRP is standard in contest prizes, for both valuation and taxes. It's not Gibson's fault that the guy is too stupid to know that...

But Hip Hop is a good reason.

I'd whine too if I'd won something and never got any. Hip Hop or not.

Gibson could have handled it better - more customer-friendly and that includes difficult or even greedy customers too. But it has nothing to do with hiphop for chrissssakes. I agree about the MSRP and btw there is a German saying "einem geschenkten Gaul schaut man nicht ins Maul" (never look at the teeth of a horse (to check age) that you have received as a present).

I agree, both sides are at fault.  Gibson for appointing someone to the process who admitted he was clueless and the winner for not reading the fine print.  Companies ALWAYS use the list price with giving their wares away.  Duh!

Never look a gift horse in the mouth, that's what we say. Obviously, Mr. Hippity Hop never heeded that advice. Uwe, I doubt the above comments were made with any animus in mind (al least, not much  ;D), but you have to see the humor in a hip hop artist whining about not getting his guitars!

My remark "hiphop has nothing to do with it" wasn't aimed at you guys, you're free to poke fun at hiphop guys (I kind of stopped listening to the genre after Grandmaster Flash though I do like some Eminem stuff and come to think of it some Snoop Dog songs too), especially as most of them are always so dead serious about their art (most hiphop artists have about as much selfreflection as Ted Nugent), but against the between-the-lines-race-whine of the hiphopper who insinuated "I'm hiphop = black = therefore a whitey company from Nashville is trying to cheat me". That is crap.

There's exactly the same in greek that says "Somebody's had given a donkey for free and he was looking it at the teeth"!

Oh yeah, we Americans simply say "Never look a gift horse in the mouth."  For obvious reasons!  I won a contest many years ago from Harley-Davidson and all of my prizes were were based on MSRP.  Big surprise!  I still have the stuff!
