Title: Marking my spot - Dogs & basses!
Post by: Barklessdog on January 11, 2008, 08:02:32 PM
The dead are always looking down on us, they say.
while we are putting on our shoes or eating a steak,
they are looking down through the glass bottom boats of heaven
as they row themselves slowly through eternity.

They watch the tops of our heads moving below on earth,
and when we lie down in a field or on a couch,
drugged perhaps by the hum of a long afternoon,
they think we are looking back at them,
which makes them lift their oars and fall silent
and wait, like parents, for us to close our eyes.

Wow, that was on my clip board! I thought it was the picture below!

John,

I'll never get enough doggie porn......seriously tho, thanks, its obvious how much you love your dogs. I don't presently have a dog but, I have in the past and when I retire from my band I will again. They have a way of bring so much joy into one's life, post as many pics as you want!

Some people would rather see this_

funny thing is I tried to put my foot down about getting a dog. I did not want one. It's such a huge responsibility. Cats are so much easier.

Dogs are dangerous because they give you love that a human never can. Unconditional, no matter how big of a screw up you are, they always are happy to see you and do anything just to be with you.

And when they die it can be way more painful to loose that love.

cats are just not the same.

Yeah, they are.  Our cat, Pretty Boy Floyd, actually plays fetch.  It's not something we taught him - he taught us.  When he wants to play, he brings his favorite mouse toy over and sets it down.

I couldn't agree more or say it better......I miss my old Scottish Terrier very much.

I have a personal photo shoot next Saturday, I'll be *trying*to mimic the KT pose amongst many other things.

When I was younger the family had dogs & cats, but because I live an unsettled life I can't properly care for them so I haven't had a pet for a very long time. I've known a lot of great dogs in my life so far.

When I was in NY  I saw a homeless women begging with a dog. she was getting all kinds of money. I think the people felt more pity for the dog.

Every once in a while, I'd see that in downtown Chicago.  From what I could tell, the pet would get fed before the owner.

Yeah I saw, a show somewhere where they said the dog always gets more sympathy.

On the Caesar dog show, he was saying that is the perfect world for a dog and many homeless peoples dogs are not on leashes. No training. He said it is the pack-mentality and dogs get to stay with their owners 24/7, a perfect dog/man relationship - in the dogs eyes

Several years back one of the local news shows did an "expose" on homeless with dogs - everyone of these people made it clear that the dogs were a goldmine.  They also spied on several of them - turns out they drove nice cars, parked blocks away from where they were panhandling, and lived in some pretty nice places.  Seems that full time panhandling was a fairly lucrative profession.

I was proud of my "pets and basses" thread at DP3 :'(

Can I start a "Cats & Basses" thread?

I was watching the dog show on Animal Planet and saw a beautiful Basenji! I didn't know anything about them before I met Barklessdog.

I think I'm going to start a new thread - it doesn't seem right to me to post cats in a dog thread, even though I love dogs too.

There's no way to embed YouTube videos yet, is there?

No, I forgot the reason- too much space on the server?

I am so allergic to dogs.  Way more than I am to cats.  I just can't identify with anyone wanting to be near a dog.  To me it's about the most miserable thing I can think of.  Of course if I weren't allergic my attitude would be completely different.

No, it doesn't take up any space on our server. Embedded or not, YouTube videos are on YouTube's servers. Playing embedded videos hogs bandwidth, but we have plenty of bandwidth and a small membership.

Here's the reason: SMF clearly warns that allowing embedding is a possible security risk. I know some other places allow it, but I'm new at this and learning as I go. When I have enough info to assess the risk and make an informed decision, I may enable it. Or not.

Thanks for the explanation. Being able to embed videos is fun and looks cool, but isn't really necessary in the end.

I found a couple of dog pictures. These are from an Alembic gathering in the San Francisco Bay Area last year. No actual basses in the pictures, but I'm wearing my Alembic t-shirt!

The dog's name is Thor. He did a great job of guarding the tens of thousands of dollars worth of Alembics gathered at the place:
