Title: Hamer Basses
Post by: marcnorth on January 11, 2008, 07:26:58 PM
Any one here play a Hamer? They make a killer double cut medium scale bass.
Here's one of mine.

I've always loved the symmetrical double cut shape. I used to have a black Illinois-made early 90s Hamer Special guitar (doublecut but flattop, like a LP Special).

I've played one of the medium scale basses, the playability was nice but I'm not a medium scale guy.

I have another one on order right now, should be done in a couple of more months. I'm sure they would do a single PU if you wanted one.
Here's another one of mine.

Do you mean you have one on order from the US custom shop, or an import model?

I know the US custom shop is very flexible on what they're willing to do, especially using one of their standard shapes as a platform.

Yes, from the custom shop.

I suspect it's from the US custom shop.

USA from the custom shop. I didn't know they made any double cut Slammers.

They make a double cut Slammer in 3/4 scale. They are on Ebay all the time.

Oh yeah! I forgot about those short scale double cuts. The USA models are a little more expensive.

A little? Yeah, just ever so slightly. :)

But they are reasonable compared to Gibson's custom shop.

The owner of our local music store here has also been the Kaman rep for the territory. He's had some really nice Hamer Custom Shop guitars in his store from time to time, even though most of his electric guitar and bass stock is beginner level stuff. Since FMIC completed its purchase of Kaman on 12/31, I'll have to find out what changes are in store for him.

I expect there will be changes before it's all said and done, I hope it's for the better.

Cool one, is that a one piece top?

Here's my 8 string. I wanted the stadium logo on this one but I guess they were out of them.

That's the large size logo like the one on your 12 string.

That's what I assumed but you know what happens when you assume. Thanks!
