Title: Worst & Best Bass Product names ever!!!
Post by: Barklessdog on February 25, 2008, 10:04:07 AM
Worst has to be The Money Bass- I hate that name so much-the name alone killed it! I am glad they discontinued the bass to get rid of that name.

Thunderbird has to be the best that I can think of.

The Fender Coronado is up there too on the worst list, it came with Corinthian Leather!

Gibson's Thor amp line is cool & cheesy at the same time.

Ovation Magnum is pretty bad too-Want to make my day?

SG Re-issue bass is just plain wrong?

They never had a bass names SG bass to reissue?

P Bass................= Pee Bass. I really don't like that term. Glad I don't own one.

Yeah, the bastardization of the Precision bass always irks me, too.  I have to agree with the Money Bass as the goofiest name I can remember to date.  Even some of those BC Rich names were better than that.

I just love the Pleasure Board and Pleasure Pump by German makers TecAmp. Uwe: Please buy them! You won't be disappointed!
EBS has nice amp names.

Also for bass: The MoogerFooger. Brilliant!

Basses.
I hate numbers like Rickenbacker and Gibson.
I like the Fender Mustang and Coronado. Musicmaster is bad and to much 'Musicman'.
Burns Vista Sonic Bass and even better: Burns Black Bison Bass.
Guild Starfire's nice too.

My favourite:

Gretsch Billy Bo Jupiter Thunderbird Bass. Now thát's a name!

Pray tell, what does Coronado have to do with Corinth?

And while you're at it, why didn't the Chrysler Cordoba have Corinthian leather and not Cordovan?

True, but the Musicmaster came first.

The "Grabber" always kind of bugged me in some way.  I mean - grab what?

I like the Lakland "Decade" - for some strange reason.

Anyone remember the Japanese Fender "Heartland" series? Yeah, I have an image of folks in the heartland of America playing their pointy headstock shredder basses and guitars.

I just saw an old vid on youtube of Phil Kennemore playin' a BONGO!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Hh2UzGyd_NI

Bongo is a lame name....maybe the lamest of all. At least Phil's is Black on Black.

Ripper & Grabber.....yuck!   I always seem to get some kind of comment like, "what's that say?  the ripper?!  okay.."  on my first L9-S, I turned the trc over so it was blank.

Agreed Grabber is right up there. The Ripper's  plug line was " It'll rip your ears off" LMFAO . No thank you I like my ears right where they are. S.D. Curlee is another name that bugged me, always made me think of the Three Stooges.

Funny how it was the tamest sounding of the three

just gotta get rid of the factory wiring harness.   I changed mine to an LP wiring scheme and it sounds much better, not nearly as bland as it was before.  it's quite bright yet retains the warm, round Gibson sound.

Bongo is on my list of bad names, as well as the G-K distortion pedal, the Diesel Dawg. That must be high on the list of badly named music gear.

They make more than bass products, but the Pignose Hog 30 is high on my list.

And then there's the green stuff that helps you hold on to picks -- Gorilla Snot.

G&L has had a couple of oddballs:

El Toro
The Interceptor
ASAT (although it's sort of cool, but a little out there)

Flying V is maybe the coolest name. Les Paul is cool too tho'!!
Thunderbird may be the coolest....I can't decide.
MY coolest bass is called simply the EB--Electric Bass!
SG stands for Solidbody Guitar doesn't it?
That's a pretty great name tooo

Worst may be Warwick. hahaaa

Some great amplifier names:

Fender Bassman and Showman.

Vox Foundation.

Gibson Thor.

And then there is Bassballs. That is both best and worst.

Yep, Bongo is the silliest name.
Sounds like a coconut flavoured popsicle.
Or a dressed monkey in a kid's movie.

The Bongo is a pretty silly bass as it is.
Especially the orange ones.

BMW designed those Bongos. Germans and basses. No good combination.

Maybe so, but designing basses at least keeps them busy. Better than planning invasions.

at least they did not but a big dial on it with a LCD screen with 23 steps to turn your volume up

My first post here will be to defend the Bongo?  Oh yeah, what a HORRIBLE idea. A bass that's not identified with a number or a concept that comes from the 1950s!  What an awful idea!

So my question is - ever played one?  And my comment is - get over it.  I kind of like them.

Hey!  I'm bovinehost!  Looky there!

Hey Jack, glad you came to give us a holler!

As far as the Bongo go's, to me personally. While I personally do not like the style, I believe it is probably one of the best industrial designs in the past 20 years. It deserves great modern design recognition.

You have to give them kudos for having the balls to do a new design that not only says Music Man, but is completely fresh and modern, like it or not.

The Dargies have to be the coolest bass that they have done. Love those little Martinis & that green is so cool.

I thought we were talking about the name Bongo being silly, not the bass itself.

I do like the tone. But it's not for me, I gotta have a flat top. I'll stick with my SUB and SUB Sterling.

I think Bongo fits nicely for a bass as wild as it is.

Grabber was born from theMuscle cars of the late 60's & early 70's. Grabber Orange was a really popular color back then.
