Offered nearly twice what I paid for my '53 for this '83, but YEAH~ It's a Tony Zemaitis!
Hope to hold it in my hands soon...
This is The Ultimate Guitar Fetish Ax! The engraving is SO AWESOME!
A friend in Hawaii who has 3--1 heart shaped soundhole acoustic & 2 Metal Front electrics-- says it's all about how well they feel & play tooo

Make sure you verify it's legit.  I've heard that after Tony retired, a LOT of forgeries were making their way out in the public arena.   There was a time when I'd have dropped $20K for one of his nicer basses.  I could still do it, but I'd need to find a place to live after my wife threw me out.

Still waiting....

WOW~ Looks like the deal will go thru tomorrow.
Gettin' more than a little excited.... !!!

Hey guys! What's better---UPS or Fed Ex for an ax worth 22k?
Maybe I should drive to where he is & get it. It's pretty far tho, cross country!

I know Kevbo said he flies out and picks them up. A round trip ticket & car will set you back $300 or so for $22,000 instrument. Seems like a better way to go. You could even buy a seat for it. I carried my Ripper on board. I have seen several people carry on guitars. The stewardess knew right away how to safely store it.

let me get this straight, terr. you sold a house in a nice part of la,(i assumed it was paid for from what you have said) and a cabin in nocal? then you bought a bunch of expensive toys and now RENT a few miles from the beach. i'm sorry but i don't see the financial wisdom in this. please correct me if i'm wrong but these kind of stories put a knot in my stomach. you are an old fart now and should be watching your money more closely.  i'm sorry but i had to add my 2 cents worth, one old geezer to another. ??? ;D

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I know I'm crazy, nofi...but you gotta LIVE before you die!

I didn't waste a nickel gambling when I was in Vegas last week.
I wasn't there an hour before I was approached by a young Italian man who lost 37k on the crap table the night before & wanted me to buy some soft Italian leather shirts so he wouldn't have to ask his family back in Italy for money to return home.

That's 15k more than what I'm getting this guitar for.

A friend of mine who went last weekend was down 18 hun but won 2 small jackpots & got out losing 5 hun.
I'd rather buy an ax. I've got a Gibson Sonex I got for $285 (with money I earned btw)
My first Gibson! Paid just 5 hun for a gorgeous Raven guitar tooo

I also didn't waste money on any shows, & I haven't wasted my inheritance on dancing girls either.

This is a lefty ZEMAITIS! The most special guitar in the world!
Did I mention that it's IMMACULATE?

I also worked my tail off on that cabin you mentioned & TRANSFORMED the place, only to LOSE 70k on it instead of making that much profit on it as I would have if real estate & the economy didn't go South.
Wish I'd-a bought a Lamborgini or Ferrari instead!!

Based on what I've lost over the last year or so , I would have been ahead if I would have spent about 250 thousand on beer and saved the empties to cash in at 10 cents a piece today :-[ ;)
Being a geezer in this ecomomy is not for the weak.

Better be sure you have a good insurance policy on your gear.

Yeah, I don't wanna think about the amount of money I spent on beer...

But still a great guitar. If you have the money, why not? And it keeps its value!!! Better than buying a new car.

But I want to see pics. I just love everything Zemaitis!

Chris~ Check your email. :D

Anyone else want 11 great photos of this baby just PM me with your email addy if it ain't on your profile.

Thanks Barkless~ Looking into insurance & I'm flying to NY to get it & the seller will meet me at the airport to give me the Z with all paperwork & HSC. Gonna buy a seat for it too, great idea!
Ticket prices are low now. There's a shipping box that Tony Zemaitis made for it back in '83 & I'll bring that back too, checking it as luggage.
Gonna turn right around & fly back the same day, Tuesday-if possible.

Flights confirmed~ Flyin' to NY on AA & then back on United with an extra seat for my ax!!

Mission Accomplished! I've literally been on Cloud 9 since making the deal in NY today.
Back home in Surf City with her & pinching myself & blinking my eyes in disbelief.
I OWN A '83 LEFTY ZEMAITIS METAL FRONT ELECTRIC GUITAR!!!

Thank you Thank you Thank you --to Tony Zemaitis & God & this guy John Boggi (the original owner) you connected me with...& Thanks a million Rick aka Zemaitis on the meniketti site who arranged the deal--UDEMAN!

Gonna have Danny O'Brien replace the placard on the headstock that says John Boggi with Tiger Shark.
Notice the list, people, of my fellow Zemaitis players:

http://www.zemaitis.net/danny-o-brien.htm

We mustn't forget that George Harrison had many Zemaitises tooo
...including the last one Tony ever made. George was so cooool

I had cashier's checks made out to John Voggi with a V by mistake & was barely able to correct that at the WaMu there in time to do the deal & get back on a plane home with "my new wife".

For those who think I'm crazy, check out these prices for other Zemaitises for sale:

http://www.maverick-music.com/Script...?idcategory=89

I got a great deal!!!

Got a great photo of Tony Zemaitis along with the papers of authenticity.
Tony's sitting in an airplane that he made! He's a true genius!!!!

Photos will soon be taken & shared...

Hey mofos~

How 'bout a few CONGRATS here? This ax is the SHIZNIT!

I'm LOVIN' my amazing Z! I ain't a very good guitarist but I can feel how she's superior to my other axes.
She sure is the most gorgeous wife in my harem!!!! heh
It's a shame Tony Z ain't still with us so I could thank him personally.
I've got letterheads with his phone number but Alas, he's long gone.
He should be getting all the money that his axes are fetching too!!!

Gonna become a member of the Zemaitis Owners Club.  8)

James Hetfield owns a METAL (of course!) Z Flying V! Looky here:

http://www.guitarnoize.com/blog/comm...-new-flying-v/

It's a Greco/Zemaitis...still--Verry Coool

He's got some kind of METAL LP as you can see there tooo

Well, considering it's a bass with a micro scale and two largely redundant extra strings, tuned too high and then even the wrong way around, it ain't too bad ...  ;)

While Dave is not around: Does that metal plate affect sound?
Title: Re: '83 Zemaitis Metal Front

Yes, the aluminimum gives it a certain brightness.

Like the Greco/Zemaitis company says in their slogan, it's:
Art with Strings

It's true!  When I removed the aluminum diamond plate pickguard from my MusicMan SUB and replaced it with a black pickguard, all of a sudden the tone got real dark!

 ;)

Here's some nice fresh pics taken out back this morning:

Ganesh says hello! Looks almost like a lotus flower on the bottom, huh?

Notice the extra 4 little toggles in addition to the Les Paul one.
One's a Killswitch, one's for distortion- it's got a 9 volt battery installed in the back-- & I'm still exploring what all they do...one causes static >blecch<
Anyway...this is why there's such a large plate in back.

Ain't she a beaut? Sounds AWESOME & feels great too!!
I'm so amazed that she's mine!

Yes, thanks, I'm playing on her daily. ....& nightly!! Thank you too, Nokturnal.
I'm grinning ear to ear these days!!!!!

Just saw another comparatively common righty ;D lesser Metal Front Zemaitis go up on ebay for over twice what I paid for this Deluxe Lefty!!

VERY nice. Treat her right and I'm sure your money is safer there than in the stock market (as long as you never have to sell her quickly)!

Hey, R&B - did you see that Maverick has a lefty acoustic for sale?  heh-heh.

They have one of the basses I'd like for a mere $30K.  And one of Ronnie Lane's cases.

It's a masterpiece. Really wonderful guitar. Congrats!

Yes, indeed! A masterpiece! Well said, well said
Wish I could make her sing as good as she looks!
I'm not worthy....but determined to get worthy...
Played on her some already this morning. Real Sa-weeet Sound

Gary~ I'd sure LOVE to get my hands on that acoustic lefty but Maverick is asking Top Dollar.
It's nice to know that Zs command such high prices tho in a way.
It would be easy enuf to make a righty acoustic Z lefty if I ever find one for a good deal.
The ones with a heart shaped soundhole are the cooolest!

Tempting to put my lefty '83 up for about 50k with this rusty one on ebay for 45k.

http://cgi.ebay.com/A-C-Zemaitis-1983-Metal-Front-guitar-Engraved-Dragon_W0QQitemZ220348719717QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item334dcea265&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_500wt_924

Yes, I'm seriously considering lettin' mine go...& my LP too!!
A real good lefty player just told me they're both excellent axes!!
I knew that.
He said the neck on the Z is the best he's ever played & loves the ebony fretboard.
I love 'em too but I gotta concentrate more on Bass an' Drums!!
Maybe I'll play guitar in the next life. Offed my '78 Strat already tooo Alas

I'm pretty damn happy & satisfied to be a Bassplayer & Drummer tho.
Rhythm SectioN. Bliss!!

I know. Fokk! My Vette & van are both broken down in my driveway right now.
Silly for a Bassplayin' Drummer to have to ride a bicycle to the market so he can hold on to an impossible to ever get again if he sells it guitar but that's the kind of music lover I am.

20 years from now I'll probly be dead.
...but I might become a damn good guitard before I die if I hold on to this beauty!
If I sell it tho I'll become a better bassmon & drummer!!
Hmmmmm....
Maverick music just said they can get me 50k on consignment.
I'm holdin' out for 60k. lol
I'm thinkin' I could ask a 66k BIN & triple my money!!!
I know that's pushin' it but someone may be crazy about her enuf to not be able to resist.
I know I'll regret lettin' her go but DAMN!

I'd say sell it. You're not really playing it, right?
I bet you have another guitar in the house if you should need one.

Title: Re: '83 Zemaitis Metal Front

It's the best ax in the house & probly in the world!
It sure wouldn't be very smart to end up homeless & riding a bike to hold on to her tho.
Played her tonight & just love how she looks, feels & plays so great.
Gotta let her go I guess. Alas
...unless another relative kicks the bucket real soon & leaves me some dough which just may happen.
....or some other windfall comes my way, like a small role in a big movie or some good gigs or something.

Everybody go back in his corner, draw a deep breath and settle down.

Everybody reads something once in a while that rubs him the wrong way. And we are not forbidding to comment on that. But public shouting matches here don't just dissolve in a fit of anger, they stay here posted, adding (real or perceived) insult to (real or perceived) injury (or the other way around) of the participants day after day. That we don't want to have. Use PMs for that. And while I expect everyone here to deal sensibly with sensible (or even unsensible) criticism, we don't want character assassinations either. And you may have an inheritance or not, may want to work or not, be active in working life or retired and own a Zermaitis extravaganza or a souped up Kramer. The day the value of gear decides here anything, is the day I'm splitting.
