Title: My Shameless Plug for Votes
Post by: OldManC on February 15, 2008, 09:05:16 PM
Hey guys,

My wife's brother is a total Disney geek who's been animating since he was 11. He entered a contest online whose winner will be named "Disney’s Chief Magic Official" (CMO). The L.A. Times gave him a favorable review and has a poll up. I'm hoping he can get some help in the votes because he's actually really good. Here's a link to the article:

L.A. Times Article and poll (http://travel.latimes.com/daily-deal-blog/?p=1348)

Here's a link to his video (Andy Peterson):

Disney Dream Chief Magic Official Contest (http://www.dreamcmo.com/view-dream-cmo-applicant.php?CMODID=CMO-9E89822605E9ED8EEE40DA0D9E614367)

If he makes the top ten I'll be pimping for votes again in March (at the contest website). Obviously, I'm not asking you to vote for him if you think the video blows, but I think he nails the Disney magic quite well, and he's a nice guy so I'd love to see him be able to do something with his talents. Thanks!

Done. That was easy enough.

I'm no judge of qualifications, but I watched 6 of the clips and agree with the reviewer, that was easily the best of the videos.

I looked at some of the videos last night and voted. This morning I actually read the LA Times article and voted again.  And again just now. If you just close all your browser windows you can vote again after you open the site again. Maybe that's how the second runner-up in the review is leading the poll by a mudslide. But as I understand it this is only a poll of 11 of the contestants that the LA Times likes, and that Disney has chosen the unannounced 20 semi-finalists of which they will choose 10 finalists. The voting on the finalists opens March 2, and I don't doubt your brother-in-law will be there.

Andy is leading the votes for the moment. Last night when I voted he was at 40% and now he is at 29%

btw, just make sure you read the poll right. At first I was reading the percentage below the names as for the people when the corresponding percentage is above the name.

You from Chicago?

Who?  ME!? ;D  Nope, I don't think that a multiple voting Righty would have much of a life expectancy in the Windy City :D

Not that I've done this or anything but, it would be much easier to vote multiple times if you were to make a hotlink from your keyboard directly to the polling page proper ::)

As a matter of fact, I am.

Chicagoans don't need to vote more than once. They just have their deceased relatives vote.

The poll actually doesn't matter, it is just the readers view. It will matter when it is brought down to the top 10.

The other day I noticed that two people on the poll were either watching it or had friends that were. Every time one of the two were out of the top place, the vote count would jump by  however many votes they needed to get back on top. In one day, the numbers went up by almost 1000 votes. Even though the vote doesn't mean much, I was hoping to actually see what public sentiment was on the videos. With that kind of vote stuffing, you can't really tell.

The voting is meaningless as it is more of who has more friends vs what is actually better, although Andy's is clearly better to me.

Yep, I noticed something similar to that with my video for the Dull Boy contest I did in November. The people that had more friends passing it around got the most views which lead to even more views from being the top when searched. All that and they do not get to see the ones like mine that took weeks of continual work and hours of rendering.
