Title: Another upright shredder
Post by: Dave W on March 10, 2021, 09:52:10 PM
I may have posted this many years ago. In any case, here's an HD version of  a soundie from the early 1940s. The bassist is the late great Frank DiNunzio Sr. The song is A Study In Brown. He really gets going shortly after the one minute mark.

Frank Sr. was around until 2005 (age 91).

His grandson, Frank III, is a singer/guitarist, but also plays upright. Maybe he can get together with the Marimba Queen descendants.

It's interesting to read up on how that "soundie" was made... that's the only known film of them...

That's not shredding, that's lovely and musical. Wow.

Here's a tune from Frank DiNunzio III uploaded earlier this year. He's on vocals, guitar and upright bass.
