Afternoon from the UK
After about a decade of using Gibson Thunderbirds, my dalliance with the brand is over with my final 'bird is shipping off to Portugal tomorrow. I've owned around ten in the last decade, but decided about three months ago to - and I hate using this term - thin the herd as I'm essentially migrating over to Mike Lulls. I'm currently down to a Lull JAXT4, a Hamer FBIV and a very old beaten up Aria ProII Primary Bass. I have another Lull on order (NRT5, ovesized body), which should drop inside of eight weeks, so the Gibsons have funded that. Well, some of that. I really won't miss the tedium (and expense) of swapping out those three-pointers for Babicz replacements.
I do feel a little melancholic, but things move along. Quality over quantity, I suppose. I'll keep an eye on what Gibson are doing, but as there's nothing bass-wise on the 2018 catalogue, I doubt that'll be on my agenda for the next 52 weeks at least.
Thanks for everyone's input. I'll dip in periodically for a catchup to see who's moaning about what.

Love to you too and please do participate because hey, not owning a Gibson anymore does'nt disqualify anyone to moan about them.

You might walk back on that decision if the 2018 limited edition Thunderbird comes to fruition. It will probably already have that Babicz bridge on there and it maybe even be sporting those probuckers the Epis are getting, at least that's what I'm hoping for. Those pole pieces look so out of place on a Thunderbird. Hey, either way, more power to you and I hope you enjoy your bolt ons :P

I've never owned a Thunderbird but that hasn't stopped me from moaning about what Gibson does or doesn't do.

There are plenty of Gibsons that aren't neck through as well, a good bolt on neck like a Lull is pretty much like a set neck and I'll take any day.
I love my Gibsons, especially the '76s but they aren't really always my bass of choice anymore.

I've had my 2013 EB 5 string for well over a year, and I still love it...with me that's usually a good sign.

I've limited myself to buying Gibsons, just to try to contain my GAS. But more & more stores are refusing to deal with them as a company. I just stopped at a new local store (new to me) yesterday. They said that you can buy just about any brand there but Gibson & Epiphone. They are just too difficult to work with.

I love my Gibsons, especially the '76s but they aren't really always my bass of choice anymore.
I was just teasing really. Lull basses are great. I still have a couple bolt ons. A 78' P and a Peavey Millennium but my newly reacquired Les Paul $ bass got the gig last night and didn't disappoint.

Riff City in New Hope?
Gibson requires a huge inventory purchase. It's easy to understand why a relatively new company just opening a second location wouldn't want to overload themselves with inventory and debt.

Yup, Riff City.............. Sounds like they move a lot of guitars, about 25 a day. Their main location is in St. Joseph MN. Nice store. It sounds like they were considering opening their store at the location that Jim Harms vacated, but chose this location instead.

Both of mine were bought in the 70's... Epi's are within most folks reach, mind you, and still may go for one of these new Thunderbirds when finances settle...

I think the only one I was genuinely sad about letting go was my ivory one...it was a thing of beauty and it did sound great, but I do know where it is. That's said, and while of course desired tone is quite subjective, my Lull JAXT4 sounds more like I want to sound (so neither better nor worse).
I'm a little interested in the new Epiphones, but they seem to be being pushed back and back (how many months since the original leaked scrub sheet?).
If Gibson did decide to release a new Thunderbird with a two-part bridge, clover machines etc., then it would pique my interest, however they seem more concerned as a company with the continual reinvention of the Les Paul and SG whilst releasing truly appalling looking new models, when they should be doing doublecut Les Paul Jnrs with a P90 in the bridge position. We play with a lot of bands and we always discuss gear; nearly every punky band we gig with questions why Gibson are making Jnrs.

Moody Sounds (swedish pedal builder) made one called Placebo. It featured a pot so you could dial in the correct amount of better tone for your needs:

Most important: It leaves all the good things of the original signal largely unaffected! Don't you just hate it when stompers taketh away more than they giveth? >:( This one has got the balance just right.

I prefer the Funk Logic rackmount units. This one is sadly discontinued - nothing else sounds like it!

Answer:
Battery drain is no problem. It does not even come with a battery clip to drain batteries from.

Answer: The True Bypass is most definitely hardwired and we all know that's the best one right?
