Title: Need some spec. help guys! Three point bridge questions.
Post by: godofthunder on March 29, 2015, 09:34:59 AM
I really should know all this stuff by know or at least write it down. The Badbird II is imminent and I need to double check some things. 60's Thunderbirds used 5/16 24 SAE I believe. The newer Gibson and Epi's use M8 (again I believe correct me it I am wrong !)  When did Gibson change from SAE to metric?  Are post '87 Birds all mertic? or did they change over in 2,000 something? I suppose I could price the bridge out with two sets of studs. Thanks guys!

I dunno the answer, but you could just offer one's choice of post or even sell them separately vs always including both.  If people are retrofitting an existing 3 point they already have the right posts (or are they different somehow)?  If their posts are rusty or lost they can buy the appropriate ones from you along with the bridge.  This saves everyone money and is much less wasteful.

Mine are different, bridge The bridge won't work without them.

Fair enough; offering a metric/SAE option seems easy enough.

I always thought Epi three points were metric, Gibson ones not. Hipshot delivered its Supertone with studs for both.
