I gave the final drawings the ok early this week. The Badbird II will fit all post 1989 Gibson and Epiphone Thunderbirds or any bass with a three point bridge. The Badbird II is a two piece 60s style bridge. The bridge will provide greater sustain and better tone due to a greater angle of string break across the saddles and due to the tailpiece no more string windings on the saddles.
Interesting, can't wait to see it.
Good for you. It'll have a bigger potential market than your original Badbird.
Way cool Scott!
Interesting!
Hope there is enough demand for your Badbird II now that the Babicz is also a good replacement for the three point bridge.
The Babicz is so dang large though... also, I haven't seen one up close yet - does it contact the body wood like the Hipshot Supertone?
Not as large as that Hipshot monstrosity.
And yes. Contact, hence the name full contact bridge ;)

But back to Scott's bridge now.
We need pics Scott!
Yeah, so the Babicz is out for me as an option. Eagerly awaiting details/pics of the Badbird II design.
Looking forward to seeing it Scott!
Really exciting news Scott.
I've had a Babicz and found it really uncomfortable for palm muting playing pick style. It's the only bridge with which I've ever had this problem. Plus the 2 pieces are so much more elegant!
For the record my Babicz was on a Gretsch, so the model may have been different...

The Hipshot looks bad on a Thunderbird, hanging over the edge of the center section. Not bad on an EB-0/EB-3. But a two-piece Badbird will be better looking.
Pictures once I have one in hand and the legal mumbo jumbo is complete.
What about just the drawring(s) [sic] then.
Keepin us waiting like this. You monster.
I'm thinking that this question is as plain as the nose on my face, but am I correct in assuming that as the bridge is a two part design, the bridge itself it will fit on the two rear bolts of the old three pointer and the string anchors will require the body to be drilled?
Thanks
Paul
Original tailpiece?
Yes the bridge will be a two piece bridge with the airfoil tailpiece. So there will be three screws and three pilot hole to drill for installation.
Hmm. In light of this malarky (and apologising is advance for coming over to the New Jedi Order), but now I'm wondering whether it's time to consider de-blacking and chroming-up one of my 'birds.
I hate you.

We'll just have to wait and see. :)
I can't imagine Scott releasing any pics or plans before he's ready to take orders.

Nooooooooooo..... :o
I did a test installation on the Butcherbird with the original Badbird. Aside from not being wide enough to intonate I was happy with the results.(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/godofthunder59/badbirdbutcherbirdM8studs003_zpsc3f6cc08.jpg)(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/godofthunder59/badbirdbutcherbirdM8studs001_zps8f07e285.jpg)(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/godofthunder59/badbirdbutcherbirdM8studs002_zps9786d6c7.jpg)
Nice, Scott! That looks lovely. I can't wait to see the finished model.
Great idea! Much nicer alternative to the 3-point than either the Babicz or Hipshot IMO.
Shoot...Just plug and redrill... it's worth it to have an intonated bass with Perfect sustain...Of all the changes Gibson did.. they REALLY should have used the Tune o matic on ALL of their basses.. Period.
Plug and redrill isn't really practical, it would involve touch up or refinishing. I don't want to get into that I wanted to produce something just about anyone can install.
Nice Scott!
Now all you need to do is make a chrome button with Dasson logo for that third hole.
:) actually It will come with a low profile threaded cap screw.

Very cool Scott - there are more Post '88s than any other so creating a product that's easy to use and gives a more vintage appearance - It rocks!
Hmmmmn.
Now I love cantilevers as much as the next guy, but not when it comes to bridge design. I reserve judgment until I see one tho.
So from a tech-rookie perspective...what is the advantage of this bridge over the 3-point on a modern bird?

In the modern PC world, possibly not the best of monikers... perhaps a variation on a well known expression... Let there be dark... :vader:

First, it does look a lot like the original two point design Gibson used on early Thunderbirds - Second, (while I've never had trouble with a 3 point) this isn't a 3 point - and for many that's a good reason too :)
