It has to be Sikki's because only an idiot would remove the vintage pickup and remove the tone and have a super long strap.... he is all about cool... VERY COOL Looking for sure......too bad he can't play for shit.
Seller says he bought it 15 years ago from a store in Hollywood. They told him it had been Nikki's but he has never seen any proof.
Also says NO visible SN# on it, so I would assume a refin....seller says he has always assumed it is a refin.
I DO like the one knob/pot setup, with the other pot just an open hole and the past your knees strap.
...and the big chunk of white tape on the neck to mark the fifth fret position :)
Still a cool bass. Add a correct pickup and tone pot, and it's awesome. Seriously, one of the best looking birds I've seen, refin or not.
Best offer accepted. Maybe Nikki bought it back.
Y'Know, Dave?....I was thinking the same thing... I actually posted it on Nikki's FB page...
My guess is it was bought by the Nikki Sixx freak who buys ALL thing Nikki for top dollar....basses, costumes, underwear....I've seen him snag his basses before, usually REAL fast and for top dollar.
I think he has a website somewhere or at least used to, showing his Nikki Sixx shrine.
Don't knock the poor guy so hard. Just heard the new Sixx A.M. in the car yesterday and you can't really say he hasn't progressed musically. And the bass playing is pretty varied, of course Sixx A.M.'s broader influences give him more of a chance to shine.

That chorus alone has more notes than Vince Neil sang on all Mötley albums put together.
yeah Sixx AM are really good, was pleasantly surprised by the first album, not heard the new stuff yet
Well, I have to admit, I really liked that tune Uwe. They're pretty good!
That Sixx am vid makes me depressed. It's perfectly appealing to the new middle aged. Kids that were rocking out to the Cru in high school and college are well in to their forties and fifties even. If this is the crap that generation is now going to swallow, stick a fork in them, they're done. I hope I never forget how to rock hard. I heard Marty Friedman might be getting back with Megadeth, now that would kick ass. At least some guys Nikki's age still have some balls.
I'd say Sixx AM is commercially more aimed at people that dug My Chemical Romance or dig Black Veil Brides today than at old Crue fans. The music has very little to do with Crue, sounds a lot more European (HIM comes to mind) and is basically pop hard rock/power pop. Also a lot more aimed at a female audience, James Michael beats ole Vince hands down in that department too.
Not knocking the Crue, they were what they were and had that outlaw appeal. Tommy Lee plays drums on the new Smashing Pumpkins outing btw, deservedly so, I think he is a remarkable drummer and the instrumentalist who stands out with the Crue.

Perhaps I did over react. I forgot about Tommy hooking up with Billy. Corgan was all over Alex Jones hyping that thing up too. Good stuff, thanks for posting and clarifying Uwe.*
* Billy's best stuff was with Jimmy on drums. Anderson Cooper still blows goats though.
Motley started out more pop than metal; like a heavier, glammed up Cheap Trick (just like his previous band, London). In the early days they covered the Raspberries and solo Alice Cooper (Department of Youth), rather than the Stooges or Sabbath. Sixx AM is not a surprise to me because, while it's slicked up a bit, I can hear Nikki's roots in that band. He's always wanted to be seen as an artist (rather than just a rock star). Brides of Destruction showcased his more rock side, but Sixx AM showcases his pop/artist side. YMMV, as always, but Nikki hasn't strayed from his roots so much as returned to them with this band.
Yeah, Sixx AM are glammy in a seventies UK scene sense, not so much in an 80ies LA hair metal one.

He hasn't done a very good job at that. ;)
I think Sixx AM is the best thing he's done. Not something I'd ever buy, but not bad at all.
Don't be crue(l)! For every inanity the Möts can justly be accused of, there is a gem such as this, Nikki does a tateful Maggie May impersonation!

My wife happens to be the worlds biggest Nikki Sixx fan (her only fault?) so I'm obliged to be a Sixx AM fan. ;D
I actually like a lot of their stuff, but their cover of "Drive" made me want to beat up Nikki on Benjamin Orr's behalf.

I thought it was horrible at first too, but I'm beginning to appreciate it more. It was a difficult song to tackle as the original is such a perfect statement.

I'm a sucker for that number in whichever shape or form. When it came out, I had a heartbreak phase and Ocasek's lyrics captured my feelings perfectly. Gives me shivers to this day.
UGH.....Cheezwiz.......No Balls.....
The original falls from grace with you too?
I'm partial to The Cars, always liked their "new wave pop rock for stadium audiences", a very American mix. This track is sheer musical brilliance to me:

The first 2 Cars albums are great. Ben Orr was one cool cat!
