got an email from steve the other day fishing for money for one of his schemes. i looked him up and here is what i found. did he go to harvard? :o he is first on the list.
http://www.linkedin.com/pub/dir/Stephen/Barr
His FB profile says he studied computer science at Harvard in 2013.
The course is entitled "Introduction to Computer Science" ....... but hey, thanks for posting that!
When I saw the thread title, I thought "uh oh, I hope he didn't die". Glad to see he's still alive.
That is the longest LinkdIn profile I've ever seen. Could be a red flag to people who see it.
Yep.
It is nice to see the old Dudepit logos again though 8)
Fishing, or phishing?
Two observations:
His profile pic is rather, errr, grim - don't you think?
I have no idea what many of those job titles actually mean.

Get in while you still can! You could invest in 'Skeeter's' Burning Man startup... ;)

Damn Dave that's GOOD!

Agreed. If it wasn't for him this place may not exist.
Such an impressive CV Barr's put together! In my own CV I would just write: Journalist. Bass player for 50 years. Four kids... Wait! There, it must be that! The reason for not having time getting all them diplomas and stuff. And now I hear the dog howl, he wants a walk in the rain... Guess I won't have time to get diplomas on this side of eternity... Wonder if Barr's got any kids? :P

No doubt about it. Some of us here knew each other (and Steve) from the FDP and even back to the old TBL mailing list, but it wasn't until the Pit that we had a Gibson forum, and that morphed into a separate forum-within-a-forum. Steve gradually came to dislike that -- he wanted the Gibson forum to stay on the topic of Gibson instead of becoming another Moe's Tavern -- but that's another story. In any case, the Outpost exists because a core of Gibson forum posters from the Pit still wanted to hang out together after the Pit went down.

This place quickly became my home online for any music/bass related discussion. Great hosts, great company, and sometimes we even have intelligent discussions!

Yep, me too. Looks like he has nothing to do with bass guitars any more and is back to real estate.
I knew him from the TBL days. He was always helpful. I never understood how such a passion vanishes.

Wow, what a run-on resume. Don't think much of it passes the smell test. I finally scrolled down to the end after fighting off some wrist cramps and saw he graduated from Monroe Community College. Oh my, I think he might be a Rochester native!
I do agree, I wouldn't be here with this great bunch of bassnuts if I hadn't have found Dave and Uwe at the Pit (an appropriate name if there ever was one for a forum with an inordinate number of flamers and misfits). I wish him well in whatever endeavors he tackles. Life is good now.
I'm Barr-free. I was unduly influenced to come here by the Hon. Dr. Bassman.
Shakespeare walks into a pub and asks why they won't serve him...
"You're Barrd...!" :o
Child of the (bass out) post Pit era...
I must admit, I found this place recently, but was a pitter back in the day...
Mark turned me onto it from a post over on Talkbass.
I always wondered where all of you guys went! :)
Interesting to see Steve is still out there doing his thing.
Really glad you're here Colin!
We have a talk radio station in London that tried to ban Colin's from talking on it... ;)
(welcome, btw)

That's great... No surprise someone would be trying to keep the Colins down!
Seems I am the custodian of a beautiful Ripper with past connection to this gentleman.
I came to this place on the recommendation of a few good souls after some interesting discussions about Gibson basses in another place.
I am glad they recommended it.
Just be prepared to discuss WWII aircraft, tanks, history, movies and the love that dare not speak it's name all in the same thread. ;)
Some of my favourite topics.

Would
definitely not exist and we wouldn't know each other.
I liked Steve for being erratic. You never knew whatcha gonna get. But being erratic was also his downfall (or at lest the Pit's downfall). I never met him in person, but the way he looked I wouldn't be surprised if he was an ADSler and hypheractive. Those people are often gifted. And erratic.
Whatever bad things happened at the Pit, they have receded in my memory compared to the good stuff. If Steve showed up here, he'd be welcome from my side (though he always thought I was a f***ing pain in his arse!).
