Title: Real life update
Post by: exiledarchangel on April 14, 2014, 03:00:04 PM
Well it's been a while since the start of my new life, so I thought of sharing some stuff about it with you people.

You all know what's going on the south of Europe, so I'll just say I was a victim of it, I was without a job for over 2 years, helping my wife with her design stuff etc. Barely enough money to live, I had to cut all luxury stuff like new strings, but not coffee. Coffee is life dammit. After a while, I had the feeling that nothing is going better, so I had to take a decision, and that's what I did. I had started some German lessons with my wife "just for fun" some time ago, those help a bit to take the right decision of course...

I arrived at the south of the German empire on November of 2012. Got a small room in Nuremberg and started looking for a job, any job, like crazy. I guess I was a bit unlucky cause things weren't looking bright, but just some days before I got my return ticket got a call for an interview. Gone there, they liked me, they laughed with my crappy German and we shake hands. Got a "test" contract for one year ( Uwe: befristet ist das richtige wort, oder? ) with the promise to make it a normal contract after it expires. And that is what happened last month, got my unlimited contract baby, hell yeah! :D

Life in Germany is not so bad after all, I kinda like it, already got a lot of friends that have help me with almost everything, especially with the paperwork. Did I say paperwork? I meant PAPERWORK. Those guys really love doing paperwork, no joke. They drink a lot, but you already know that... "you've got the sun, we have alcohol" their words, not mine...

So, to cut it short, after some time I finally find a house in reasonable price (believe me, that's hard) in Erlangen, a small city full of universities and hospitals and I'm happier than ever. I may post some pics later... Things look bright after a big period of darkness! And hey, I think its time to buy new strings, woohoo! :P :P :P

Things may have changed since it has been a long time ago, but the women in Nuremberg were the prettiest I had ever seen--with the exception of Dublin, of course.  Not that that kind of thing should matter to someone married.  All I'm saying is that I was genuinely impressed.  Anyway, being there sounds like something really nice to me.

You might even be able to enjoy some cheap holidays in Greece ... ;)

No decent Ouzo unless you get it imported (I don't miss retsina) , but there are plenty of Greek restaurants if you get homesick for a decent meze - last time I was in Germany (seeing Whitesnake in '81) I had lunch in a Greek restaurant, but enjoyed the German dark Bier ...

YAMAS ... !!! :toast:

Alles gute Neuigkeiten - happy to hear them! What about your visit to Frankfurt?

House? Looks like you are settling down permanently with us, that is another good thing! I like Erlangen (one of my major clients that starts with an S has a lot of his operations there).

I've noticed a lot of great pair of legs here, can't beat the best pair around of course (wink wink), but if you got a feet fetish, this is the place to be!

No way Kenny, Greece is too expensive for me :P

You gotta be extra careful with Ouzo, its the most adulterated drink in Greece. If you aren't, you may wake up one morning all covered in tzatziki, with your pants on your ankles and wondering what happened. Also, I agree about Retsina, I have tried paint thinners with better taste. I'd take a dry red anytime. Or a Rauchbier anyway! :D There's some places here where you can find good greek food, but wife's cooking is excellent, so no worries!

She is stored carefully back in my homeland, waiting patiently till I find access to power tools and some free time... But she has good company, another two or four projects...

Frankfurt has to wait for some time, cause my parents are visiting me for eastern. Already ordered the poor lamb... And yes, you're not gonna get rid of me easily, I came here to stay!

Also, except our common passion for anything black made of plastic, we got one common client, Wahnsinn! ;)

You should, or better yet, you MUST! Also there's a lovely beer museum there, very interesting stuff. And Bamberg is just beautiful, I'm gonna visit it again this week, and I can't wait!
