Title: weird question?
Post by: SKATE RAT on February 17, 2014, 08:49:16 AM
i have this Fernadez Pbass  that i bought for $50 a while back. it had no pick guard or pickups and was routed out for a big humbucker and side jack.( seems dude was trying to make it into a Stingray) i wanted to use it for a T-40 pup i have laying around. but decided i dont like the bass much so i wanna sell it. do you guys think i would be better off selling it whole or parting it out? (parted out makes shipping easier)

Probably get more money parting it out.  More work though.

If it's not loaded/strung, it's easy enough to unbolt the neck for shipping even if you sell it as a whole. I don't think they're very desirable so I wouldn't be so sure that parting it out is really worthwhile.  Also, a modified non-big name generic body will be a tough sell (dime a dozen), while the neck (they're actually decent ) will go easier so you might be left holding the bag on the body.

Dunno how consistent they were, but the last Fernandez P I played (possessed for a short time but didn't own) was a much better bass then a contemporary Squire P that a friend had (early 2000s or so)... to be fair that Squire was a dog and maybe not representative of average quality.

Second on selling it as a whole but breaking it down for shipping. Fernandez makes really nice Fenderannbe's, better than the real thing in some cases, but you'll get more money with less effort to sell it as a whole.
