Title: NAMM
Post by: Chris P. on January 29, 2014, 05:20:59 AM
Played some new Gibsons at the NAMM. They played well and the SGs look good. The only new thing for me was a white Jack Casady. Looked good!

Jack himself has been using one for years already

Now, honestly, that would need black hardware.

Or white plastic bits instead of black...they never do get the combinations right  ;D

I think the chrome bridge matches up well with the block inlays on the fretboard and it it were black, the bass would look much cheaper. Think of all the instruments from the 80's with light finished and all black hardware and most of them were not desirable. Cassidy's own white bass with a white pickup and pickguard would look pretty crappy too if he weren't holding it.

Y'all are both right - that white Cassidy needs a Triumph-style pup - black with nice large chrome mounting rings  :P

... though I dig the Falcon idea too (the only instance where I like Gold hardware).

Anyone else see the headstock finish is either checking or a has a very uneven clearcoat? There's just a quick shot of it but I'm fairly sure that what I saw were finish waves. I went back and checked it out in fullscreen in HD and sure enough, Gibson's QC is there in all it's half-assed glory. I guess the buffer must have been seized by the feds and NOT given back.

Looks like checking..  Could be stripes from polishing, hard to see for sure. ???

Looks more like someone wiped it with a not so clean (damp) cloth.
My mother-in-law does that all the time with the glass door of the microwave oven... drives me nuts

Are these Midtown Signatures true hollow ( like the Epi JC's) or do they have a center block running through them? That picture of Casady was from the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival (a fantastic yearly free festival running 3 days in Golden Gate Park first weend in October) in 2012.

Carved out solid mahogany for the back and sides, semi-hollow, center block IIRC.

Yes, I think "chambered" is the more accurate description.

Yep, chambered was the word I was looking for.

Ok, this is a little funny and "No Fender employees were harmed in the making of this prank".

I saw that yesterday when somebody posted it at TDPRI. Sorry to disagree but that's about as lame as you can get. Unfunny comedian, ugly SG, and he's not "pranking" anybody. Dipshit.

What makes it completely lame and tasteless is how the pranker hangs around to point it out to all passers by like some huge thing - most people didn't really care without his goading.

Now if Fender were really offended, they could always wait until next NAMM and hire actors to visit Gibson's booth dressed as Fish & Wildlife agents.  :vader:
