beware of the stranger who upon meeting you blurts out within five minutes that he is a lead guitarist. not just a guitarist but a lead guitarist. it will be impossible to have a conversation with this person as the topic will always snap back to him. same thing applies to every instrument player but full disclosure may take a bit longer. hell, the tuba guy may say nothing at all.
I've had a tendency to have good luck with guitarists. But I've observed second hand the bad attitudes quite a number of times.
[Blackmore/Gillan] Could've been worse... could've been the singer... [/Blackmore/Gillan] ;D
You mean the lead singer, don't you?
Most guitarists need to be led. That is how lead guitarist really needs to be pronounced.

Do Zepplins need to be led? (He asked innocently...)
Only if they're called Hindenburg...
The lead balloon? ;)
Q:How Many Lead Guitarists does it take to change a lightbulb?
A:Four. One to change it and three to stand back and say "Not bad, but I could have done it way better"
I thought it was one to stand still while the rest of the world revolves around him. Or maybe that was the lead singer.

I got to see Tower of Power the other day, and though Rocco Prestia wasn't there (unfortunately he is again in need of a liver transplant (http://www.towerofpower.com/rocco_bio/)), it has rejuvenated my interest in him and the band. This is from an interview with him in Vintage Guitar magazine (http://www.vintageguitar.com/3782/rocco-prestia/):
Why were there so many singers in this band?
Because we got tired of their asses!
Usually that would spell failure for a band because the audience identifies with the singer.
For whatever reason, they either wouldn't work out, or they'd leave on their own. You know, singers in general are freaking head cases. A lot of them have "L.S.D." – Lead Singer Disease, for anyone who doesn't know. We had a lot of great ones, though.According to the article they had five singers in their first ten years!
What of the even worse predicament - the multiple lead-singer band... :o

I'm pretty sure TOP only had one lead singer at a time - I'm trying not to think about a multiple lead-singer band, but Jefferson Airplane springs to mind... *shiver*

Another one: Deep Purple Mk. III!
Does it count if they also play an instrument? ;D

They work because they rarely actually get together except onstage. Their albums are FTP'ed track by track from each member's home studio and mixed in the label's studio, but when they're not touring, they basically don't even know each other.

But they have done a lot of touring haven't they? At least I think they used to. Plus, the band has been together for years. I read somewhere that the bassist doesn't even tour with them anymore. I don't know for sure. I've never seen them live.

Not sure. I'm sure people could make all kinds of categorizations with various bands if they wanted to, of course.

They do spot tours and partials. I don't think they've done any extensive touring in almost a decade. They had a good idea with their first two albums and the music is still good, but the magic is gone. It's just boring now.

Then what I read about the bassist may be true. Maybe he is mostly involved with something else. I think I may have also read they are working on a new album. I was never really a fan, but years ago I did buy a few of their albums. Then I lost touch for the most part.
It worked quite a while for these guys here:

Yes, I know, I just went up a few notches on the uncoolometer. Not only do I remember Three Dog Night, I have the nerve to post them. Still have a soft spot for them.
Nor do they make dry ice machines like they used to either! The one they used here must have been a remnant from the Tirpitz' camouflage system vis-à-vis the RAF!
I thought they were okay until they put out that stupid Black and White single in the early 70s. Good singers. Embarrassingly bad stage duds though, even for that era.
TDN was the one that jumped to mind with me, as well as JA/JS
My favorite song by them was Never Been to Spain.

They sure had a hand in picking songs from not yet established songwriters and turning them into hits. And through all that non-original material you could still recognize them after a few seconds. As for their live presentation ..., well that already had cabaret act/Las Vegas written on its forehead before even they thought about that part of their career.
I liked Tony Orlando & Dawn's Tie a Yellow Ribbon too btw! :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

That was only one lead singer.
Never thought much of Tony one way or the other until I found out he was a big Bobby Darin fan. That made me appreciate him a little.
Anyone for some ABBA...?
True, I was getting carried away, I'll make up for it I swear:

Of course! No shame in that. ABBA were brilliant. Incidentally, Ritchie likes them too.

I'm going to lie down now...
I don't know if this can be viewed in Europe, but if not, that's probably a good thing.

Until you've been in Washington for an eternal, gray 9 months of not summer, you can't really relate
to either Soundgarden or Nirvana :-*
I like my depressive music with some sullen harmony! Not erratic chording up and down the neck.
