hello hello, been a while since i've posted. i recently bought a Hipshot Supertone 2 point to go on my SB450 and low and behold, it doesn't fit? the bridge is wider than the original studs (for an "Evertilt) does Hipshot make 2 different size 2 point Supertones?
Don't know. Give them a call, they are right down the road from us here in Rochester. I've talked to them before about some parts I needed and they were great. Very good customer service in my experience.
The three-point mount on my RD had a gotcha in that the threaded insert at the front had the same external size as the ones at the back when it's usually smaller (and the Hipshot is built to expect that). Because I'm in Scotland and I couldn't be bothered with international to-ing and fro-ing, I just fixed it myself by grinding out the front recess with a Dremel until it fit over it properly.
Obviously I wouldn't recommend that to someone who has Hipshot (relatively speaking) on their doorstep.
I wasn't aware that the SB350/SB450 ever came with a two-point, although the SB300/SB400 did. What year is yours? The Supertone listing on Hipshot's website specifically says it's for pre-1973 2-pointers, so yours would have to be a very early issue for it to fit.
They changed the post spacing on 2 pointers in/after 73 or ever? I thought they just transitioned to the 3 point.
I just put a 2 point Hipshot on a ´67 EB-0, spot on. Feels great, I´m in hippy heaven!

Did the '67 have the Tilt-o-matic or the offset bar bridge?
67 could be either - transition year.

Both my ´67 EB-0 and my ´67 EB-3 have offset bar bridge, but I think ´67 was the last year for it.
I thought the enlarged left hole on the hipshot (the adjustable side) was made to fit both.
Never had a tilt-o-matic before, though. But hey, both my offset´s tilted, thats gonna count for something right?

I thought so too, but apparently not. Assuming Hipshot knows what they're talking about, and if Bryan's SB450 isn't pre-73, I'd guess there must have been another 2-point version.
my SB-450 is a 72. first year for the bass and last year for the Evertilt.
i guess i'm gonna have new holes made, i'm sick of no bridge fitting the stud spacing
The Gibson bar bridge, tilt-o-matic bridge, and 3-point bridge all have slightly different post spacing. This was Gibson in their infinite wisdom. Maybe the Supertone is made to replace the bar bridge?
and the 300's and 400 didn't have the 2 point, they have some other kinda bridge. i was just looking at 2 SB400's on ebay today
The Hipshot 2-point has replaced the Evertilt on my EB-3L and EB-4 (both early seventies) no sweat. I knew of two point SB-350/450ies (the very earliest ones, just like there are Triumphs with a 2-point out there), but not that their spacing was different. SB 300/400 had a different (non-tilting) bridge altogether, idiosyncratic to only them.

Did it actually have a 2 point on it when you got it? Because if not, then someone may have already tried to change out the bridge with something else. Measure the stud spacing and I can check it against the oversized Schaller 460L on my EB3 (had to drill new post holes for that, but it was sanded to the wood after a fixed neck joint break with no bridge at all so no biggie).
I'm just going by this page (http://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=326). If yours is pre-1973 with the factory original 2-point, and it doesn't fit, then you ought to at least contact Hipshot directly before filling and drilling new holes.
I've spoken with Hipshot - real live humans answer the phone and are helpful. Worth a try.
How much narrower/wider is that freak spacing compared to the Supertone spacing?
yes, it had the "Evertilt" when i bought it. (i sold it to someone here) i also tried a Schaller a few years back (also didn't fit) the spacing on the Hipshot is off by a tiny tiny bit. but still doesn't fit. i tried calling Hipshot but was on hold for so long and i was at work i had to hang up twice. i'll try calling them again.
The Schaller came in 2 sizes! Anyway, not exactly a viable option anymore due to habving been disco'd years ago.
Anyway, if it is off by just a tad could it be simply due to the Evertilt's namesake tendency causing the bushing to become crooked in the body just a bit, making the spacing off by slightly more and more the higher the posts are set? Hope that made sense.
Did they sell you the right Supertone? Perhaps they sold you a Supertone replacement for the three point bridge instead of the Supertone for the two point / Evertilt?
no, i bought one of each. so i have both versions, i'm gonna put the other on my Ripper
