...if I wasn't getting hitched next month.
This is a great deal on an Artist.

Hitched?!
I thought you were President of the He - Man Woman Haters club :o
Maybe I'm last to know. Congratulations, Denis!
Whoa! Congrats!
That Victory looks like it could use an industrial strength cleanup.
Congrats Denis!! She is a lucky lady!!
I was eyeballing that Victory too. Looks a little rougher than the description says but then again you don't see the all black ones very often.
That's an interesting color (blue?) if it's not a refin and it has a painted neck, but since when did Victory Artists become so expensive that 700 bucks is considered cheap?
Better get married then. I had already given up that you would.
Speaking of 80s Gibsons - there's a pointy headed neck ending soon here - http://www.ebay.com/itm/221286425411?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Congrats on the pending nuptials.
As for the Victory, that's about the max I would pay (locally I'd pay a bit more; no shipping).

That's a Q-80 neck. And it wasn't the last of the pointy ones - that was the Q-90 -, but the penultimate.

On Ebay people are looking for $650+ for a Standard and the Artists are list a couple hundred higher usually. Thats what they are listed for, not sure how many are selling at those prices. Victories don't seem to be the current popular Gibson flavor on Ebay right now.
Vic Standards are a hard sell even at 700 and locally. I once saw a heavily modified Victory at Capsule music with an 800+ ask. Laughed out loud. I've only seen one sell locally - it was a CAR one and it went for $600 (like 2 years back). Don't remember if that one was Std, Art or Custom.
A 'completed listings' search of ebay shows that Standards are failing to sell for $600 for the last few months, though an artist (in better shape than this one, cosmetically) went for $775 on the 15th. .... though there was the moron who hit the 1250 BIN on a CAR standard in July (ROFL). Another artist (silvergreen) went for $510 in July and a CAR standard for $450 a few days before that one. Those were probably good deals for the buyers.
I think the sellers are trying to raise prices (see flower pot guy with pro audio gear) and are hoping that the significantly higher prices the Victory 6 bangers are fetching will rub off on the basses soon enough (mostly $800ish to just over a grand depending on version, but there was one that went for 350 on the 12th - cosemetic issues including a weird headstock repair/reinforcement and replacement/downgraded pickup). BTW, the humbuckers in the 6 bangers are pretty great - same ones used in the Sonex line I think (I have one of those). Little on the overwound side, but (if you get the Sonex Custom or any of the Vics) 4 wires so can coil tap (and not have a wimpy single coil).
Congrats Denis
Him being married and all now, I hold that back pains should in the future have other (natural) causes than an overweight bass!
Pfftt! Buy the bass - you can get married any time! ;D
Besides, no time like the present to set some expectations ;)
Congrats, on getting hitched. My only piece of advice is that you will never truly, ever, win an argument - she may let you think you've won...... :)
Marriage... Dante's Inferno type of stuff... we'll welcome you to the club next month... good luck...! ;)
Congrats Dennis.
Thanks, guys! It's coming way too fast!
Afterwards we're headed to Salem and Boston for a few days and I'll be there for my birthday. Any good bass-heavy stores in Boston?
Salem... how appropriate... ;D

A very brave man! But, way to go big, buy a new bass on your honeymoon! ;D :P
You must let us know if you're successful at that! :)

I think he'll do just fine. My wife has encouraged me to buy a bass or amp on almost every trip where I find anything cool. She's a happy woman who enjoys my playing. She's also a dancer, so it may just be a case of being married to a fellow artist. Dennis is more than cool enough to be able to get a bass on his honeymoon.
Dennis, congrats! Marriage is a very worthwhile endeavor!
My wife will tell me all of the time to buy something - bass, tool, etc. I'm too focused on saving for retirement, kid's school, groceries to feel like I can spend anything. Besides, when I buy something she seems to always wind up getting new stuff in short order.
Congratulations Denis!! :toast:

Don't worry, Denis, that does happen with young couples on their honeymoons. It settles down over time.

Thanks man! We survived the wedding and the honeymoon. Didn't get a chance to hunt down any guitar shops when we were in Salem. I consoled myself with lots of great local beers up there, clam chowder, a visit to a museum with two Pierce Arrows and an ex-German Polizei leather coat from a surplus store.

Oh, that's nice.
I wonder what is up with that fretboard issue. I called and they said the neck is definitely warped and intonating it a pain. However, they won't come down on it any further. Too bad. There was a neck on eBay the other week, too.
Congratulations Denis!
Thanks, Mark!
Congrats on the wedding, the honeymoon and the leather Polizei coat!
Leather Polizei coats? This sounds like an interesting relationship already. 8)
Best wishes for a happy marriage, good fortune, and more Gibsons as the years progress.
Congrats!!!!
