Title: Fender Bass VI - Pickup Rings (first Generation early 60's models)
Post by: dc10bass on June 10, 2013, 02:03:55 PM

Group...

Wondering if anyone has a Fender bass VI with the pickup mounting rings?
Looking for overall dimensions of the rings. (H x W x L) ...and Material thickness if possible.
...OR, if you happen to know somewhere online where I can find them.

Are the white pickup covers standard Strat pickup covers?

It's a stamped part but was considering having a set machined...

Thanks for any assistance!
Curt

If I'm not mistaken, 61's had them, and by '62 Fender started using Jaguar pickups and 4 slider switches.

Thought I had read somewhere that they used them in 1962...
...either way, looking for dimensional details about those pickup mounting rings.

I had one of the first ones.  The pickups were standard strat covers at any rate- I never popped them open or measured them to see what the deal was.  The rings were kind of like those - but I don't recall them being that thick unless they went into the body deep.  I never popped them out.

Those covers look a lot like the solid metal cover I installed over the mudbucker on my EB-0.  It was twice as deep front to back when I got it.

I fastened the cover to a wood block with a couple of screws, leaving the open side accessible...then used the sanding wheel on my Shopsmith to sand down the depth of the cover until it fit properly under the strings.

Seems to me that one could sand down the cover to fit it to a specific needed depth.  Probably could just glue sandpaper to a marble block or glass and rub the cover's base back and forth across it.

Here are two nice pics showing more detail from the bottom AND body cavity...
