Title: This is cruel

Maybe it just means you shouldn't play a Precision.  ;)

LOL (at least not a black with white pg squier that everybiodiy's little brother has).

I was gonna post that in the drummer out of gas thread, but then

and especially:

(though I would argue that this is more of an exception to the rule thing, and yes there's plenty more, but still).

I just started gigging again and all of a sudden my gf decides it's time to break up. Maybe there's something to it. My next gig is at a 21 year old girls birthday pool party so I think I'll survive.

Nofi, coming out with your lesser Fender sins is all good, but you are dodging the crucial question: How many girlfriends at any given time simultaneously? After all this is the forum of scientific validation. We need to know now: Is a Fender shape inherently unattractive, distasteful even, to the female half of the world?

Control your variables Uwe; maybe it's the plain vanilla sex pickguard; put a tort on there to spice things up and things might just get better.

From reputation Mark's never had a problem with relationships being a bass-player...

Ah... this might raise other complexities... ;D

I once knew a guitar player who matched the equation.  The problem was that after a few years, he was on the same side of the equation as the guitar.

LOL Yeah this has been making the rounds on fb and friends and family seem to delight in it. Frankly I have never had any trouble in this department. Do I get the attention that say the singer or guitarist gets? Of course not but those usually are not the types I'd go for. It's all mute these days anyhow. I may surround myself with beautiful basses but I have always been a one woman guy.

Because they're often hard to see, often at least partially obscured, it seems to me it's drummers who have more of a problem getting chicks.  I had a drummer friend switch from drums to guitar just for the women.  He is a great drummer, too.  I'd put him up against anyone.  Not quite as good on guitar, but still very good.  The point, though, is he is someone in music for keeps and decided being a guitarist would give him more visibility than being a drummer.

i sang lead or co-lead in most of my bands until around 28  so I am not a good judge.  IMO waitresses always seemed to like this bassplayer.    ;)

In my experience girls do seem to comment more on guitars or basses that are not the "typical" shape. Even just an unusal or attractive finish can make a Strat or LP stand out more to them, or so it seems.

LOL at George's version.

The truth isn't that simple, but it's not as dire as the the original version either.

Makes sense. That is why they are called Thunder-BIRDS.

Good one, uwe!   I agree with the unusual finish theory. IME, females like Sonic Blue...

Many of my bass playing friends got a kick out of this when I posted it on Facebook. Even a Precision guy. Of course an old drummer friend got all bent went another guy made a drummer joke.

Bill Wyman did allright with the women, for a short skinny guy with small hands.

PS. I can confirm that females like pink paisley basses

Being aware of your recent purchase Mark, is that a general observation across all specimens?

Still hard to digest the story about how Bill's son from his first marriage fell in love with Mandy's mother. If Bill and Mandy had stayed married, Bill could have become his own grandpa, like the old Lonzo & Oscar song.

Play a Les Paul bass to confuse 'em.  ;)

In my opinion/experience, if you're skinny and go on stage with something in the guitar family, and are passionate about what you do, it doesn't matter the number of strings. As an adult, I haven't had any trouble with "getting enough attention" or whatever. But I've also been in the same relationship since 1982.  ;D

How many girlfriends at any given time simultaneously?

A summer I had three, ofcourse none of them knew about the other two, and also none of them knew whats a bass, they were mainly interested on other things. Finally, I ran out of time and this come to an end. Also my less-than-perfect memory that was leading to names mix-up didn't help with this situation at all...

Always chose women with the same first name.   8)

The guitarist I knew had his second wife leave him for another woman after she picked her team.  Before that, she brought her friends home for both of them.  Be careful what you ask for.

I think we need a more educated opinion from Fraulein Rommel on this....

I've heard that same scenario! Tragic...

It might actually be the same person.  You do live in Chicago.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I played Fender P and J basses and got more chicks than all of the rest of the band put together...unless you count ugly, underage, crazy, baby-mama-to-be's: in which case, the drummer still only got about half the female attention I did. And I, honest to God, never played 'to get chicks.' I was just massively pissed off and playing was a cathartic release. First rule of women: if you want them to chase you, ignore them.

Ha ha! Me either, but it helped me have something resembling a social life as a slightly nerdy, lanky, high school kid who listened to too much old 70s prog rock.  ;)
