Title: Riddle me this
Post by: gweimer on December 11, 2012, 07:17:29 PM
I'm sure someone knows what this is. I don't, but it's mighty pretty.

I don't like designs where the upper horn curves outward like that. The upper strap button points the wrong way. Puts the bass in an awkward position. This one's even worse than a Wankwick Corvette.

That fretboard won't wear down so quicly, let me tell you. And no dead spots either. Quick attack of carbon might be interesting in combination with the more sluggish response of a fretless.

Jaco is to blame for the folly of putting the only pups that bass has so close to the bridge. For that wonderful car-bony sound.

As a boutique bass, it's in a league of its own. Not my taste - to artsy for me (reminds me of Ritter basses) -, but eminently better than the umpteenth Jazz Bass lookalike that professes to be "better than the real thing". Yawn.

Cedar is a tone wood?
Title: Re: Riddle me this
Post by: uwe on December 12, 2012, 01:15:49 PM
"Tone wood" is an euphemism for "doesn't look like much, but can carry a frequency". Cedar has been used for acoustic guitar tops a lot and for a long time, second only to spruce (from which you can make a solid body too, my Parker Fly is made of spruce, no drawbacks other than that it is unreasonably light).

I think it should be finished in flesh tones.............................

It's not that's it bad, I'm sure it's beautifully assembled - It's just the antithisis of what I want from a Bass Guitar.

I'm sure you can get some spectacular tones out of it and the sustain is probably endless.

Here's the perfect gift (http://ca.shine.yahoo.com/blogs/shine-on/gold-pills-poop-shine-180020306.html) to go along with it. Matches the horns too!

Dave is being deliberately unserious. It is a sad day when the high craftsmanship of luthiers is derided thus.

You forgot to include a pic of Sam the Eagle.

Oh lordy, now two of our number are playing the Deutschland Uber Alles card.

Just to balance the long-lost-causes displays, should we start showing these?

One of my amusing Ohio stories - I was living outside Cincinnati when the attacks on 9/11 happened.  There was a guy in the neighborhood who had a pickup truck.  The Stars and Stripes were flying on a pole on the driver's side of the bed.  The Stars and Bars were on the right.  In the middle, on the windshield was a sticker - United We Stand.

I am at a loss to guess whether the owner understood the irony.

We can send Texas Gov. Rick Perry over to help exhort the masses about independence.

On second thought, that might cause a Scottish-American incident.

The Scots would never be able to understand him (and vice versa)

Hadn't thought of that.  The world is probably safer if those with a Scots accent can't communicate with a gent having a strong Texas drawl.   ;D

(Perry actually doesn't have that strong an accent, but we can always hope.)
