I like it but it's already at $800 and 6 days to go... any guesstimates?

I'm still sad about this one:

The seller had it with a BIN of $849. Before I could buy it some dork had placed the opening bid of $749. Ended up at $1200.........
This one had no BIN. Started at $250.
I think it's pretty cool, wish I had the $$$, me and shorties (Gibson) just aint right ;)
Hubba hubba! Would go great with my '76 Destroyer!

Didn't they do one with a mudbucker? The Cars had one in a video. Expensive, but where do you get another one these days?
The one Ben Orr used was a bolt on version. Came out still in the late 70's. though. Here is an example.

That was the first model - around 1975. All maho, bolt-on, mockbucker and mockmini, cherry fin, as shown in the Hornet's posting.

Not a great sounding bass (very mellow and unfocused), but an object of cultish desire. Jim Lea hardly ever used his live, it was more of a prop for TV shows. The Rocket Roll (as they were by then called) in the auction probably sounds a lot better if more P'ish.
Thanks for the info Uwe. I wasn't sure when they were out. Here is the one Ben was playing.

You could probably get Orr's particular sound on that vid out of it, but let's face it that could be any bass, but you certainly couldn't get Jim Lea's recorded sound om Thanks for the Memory with it. Contrary to its look, that Ibanez sounds totally docile. Like a very lame EB-3L.
Went for 1,802.77 :o
That is about $1K more than I expected it to sell for. Yep, outside of the Fender/Ric world I'm clueless.
A couple of people wanted that real bad, otherwise it wouldn't have gotten near that high.
No doubt you are right. It's a beautiful bass, though, and with the P/J pickups you know that you will get a decent sound out of it. So it might be more appealing to some (players, not collectors) than a real Gibson V bass.
I love that shape. Nothing says rock'n'roll more than a V. I play standing up anyway (even at home). And you can lean it against an amp or a wall without any stand. Some day I'll get me one, but it will have to be cheaper.
An early version, maho bolt-on with mudbucker lookalikes, on eBay. $1,295 BIN

That is what I have.
i remember looking for those when they came out. i found one and have not seen another since. i almost had a flying v bass made for me. but it would look like that ugly thing jack casady played so i said no. :P
Visually, it's a great shape and contrary to public belief comfortable to play sitting down too if you do it Spanish style. But there is something sonically about the shape that keeps it from sounding better than okay even with the best Flying V basses (and I have two Gibsons, two Deans, one Ibanez and one Kramer).
