Never was into boutique basses but this one appeals to me: LeCompte VB-4 (http://www.lecomptebass.com/vb4/).

I played a LeCompte twin DS bass in Atlanta a couple years ago that was incredible. I *almost* bought that one. It beat the Manne Glenn Hughes model by a long shot.
I dig this one too

Both VERY nice!!!
Are these really "boutique"? I'd call them his take on classic traditional styles.

+1, just like Lull or Sadowsky ie. very nicely made top quality traditional style basses with boutique pricing.
Checked the company site. Can only say: Five string basses with a tremolo arm... Are there really so many frustrated guitarists playing bass, that such a production can be seen as necessary?

I doubt it. It's a one-man company, he probably built it to order. I doubt he builds more than 20 basses a year, if that.
been eyeing that exact model for a while. wish i could try one out.
some of his other designs are a little out there
Bud LeCompte is located here in the Houston area - I think the north side. Dave is right - he is a one man shop. He does have a good reputation and supposedly builds an excellent bass. He did get good review in Bass Player a couple of years back as well.
His workmanship looks outstanding.
Absolutely, just not my cup of tea.
That 51 has got me drooling ;D
