Is the neck width on the Gibson EBO and EB3 the same size as on the LP Triumph and Recordning bass? The Triumph neck is the thinnest neck I have ever played. I measure 38 mm at the nut and 55 mm at the last fret on mine.
They varied over the years.
Aha, but were they ever as thin as the neck on the LP Triumph?
I don't have my basses around here, but my Thunderbird has a very narrow neck. I think something like 38mm as you say. My EB3 and SG Bass are a bit wider, but not as wide as an old P. I think something like 40 to 41 mm.
Neck width at the nut on mine:
'60 EBO 1.75"
'65 EBO 1.625"
'67 EBO 1.438"

Wow, huge difference between those!
38mm = 1.5" approx...
so, the slotted headstock basses (made at the same time) are the same, approx 1.5" (I measured 3 of them), as is my '69 (solid headstock) EB3 (http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/1969gibsonEB3.php) and 72 triumph (http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/1972LesPaulTriumph.php).
My 71 SB400 (http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/1971gibsonSB400.php) and 72 (solid headstock) EB3 (http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/1972gibsonEB3.php) are a little bigger at 42.5mm (1 11/16" ?)

Wow, you could add another string on that '60!
The slotheads certainly aren't thin, though. Deep U-shaped back profile.
I didn't know this was such a complex issue. Just to complicate things a bit more - how about the neck width on the EB2?
I couldn't tell you about the width measurements, someone else can chime in on that. But there is also a wide variance in neck profile over the years. I've played a couple of early ones with huge thick necks and later ones that are fairly slim.

My 1966 EB-2D is 1.6875" at the nut. Feels chunky (but in a nice way) compared to my 68 EB-3, former pre-slothead 69 EB-0, and 73 Triumph - all of which fall into that slender 1.5" profile. The Triumph is one of my favorites- love that bass.
1959 EB-2........................1.670
1967 EB-2........................1.510
1968 EB-2DC.....................1.510
And just for giggles
1969 EB-1 Reissue.............1.535
1970 LP Bass.....................1.515

You and me, both! The tone is amazing. The only thing that might possibly be better would be a hollowbody Triumph. I am building myself one.

You will get it, but be patient - it is still only in its infancy. I will probably not have it ready until a year and a half from now if everything goes as planned. Will start a thread later on.
