Title: Entropy... the end of all things...
Post by: Highlander on March 09, 2011, 02:36:29 PM
The Last Question by Issac Asimov... "Can entropy be reversed...?"

In 2003 I witnessed the last flight into Heathrow of a Concorde...

... A motoring journalist invited to be on the last flight out of JFK quoted on stepping back onto the tarmac, "This is one small step for a man, but one huge leap backwards for mankind..."

Today, the USA witnessed the last flight of Discovery, with Atlantis and Endeavour left to make their last flights...

There is no replacement on the horizon - the dream of the stars is all but dead...

We are presently paying £1.40 per litre ($10.32 at todays prices for a gallon) for diesel and I don't see the price coming down, ever again...

I'm feeling a bit depressed...

I heard it said yesterday that NO ONE really understands entropy, so don't feel bad about that.

But please keep in mind that there is still beer - and nice fuzzy squirrels.

Some things are going well!  We'll keep sorting out the rest as we go.

"These are the times that try men's souls"
Ken, as long as you're vertical, consider yourself lucky. I have to keep reminding myself of that as well.

The estimable R.A. Heinlein opined years ago that humankind should not target the moon; in fact, he felt that the moon was a red herring/distraction, and that real space exploration should directly target the outer planets.  I'm not sure whether the space station will be a helpful step toward this idea, but I hope that amid the fight for funding, the space program survives.

The older I get, the better I understand entropy.
Especially at the end of the day.

You might say it's a lifestyle. It's just not a choice.

What Kenny is saying is a cogent argument.  All I know to do is to try to be positive on a personal level as much as possible, in spite of the fact that the world is obviously getting more screwed up by the day.

There will always be plenty of "lasts".  Things go through their cycle and end.

BUT - every day, there are plenty of "firsts" as well.  That's very encouraging.

The original was funnier, too.  1967, as far as I know.

Earlier today I chanced upon a John Mayer cover of Bold as Love, a song which also originally came out in 1967.   Mayer's voice assassinates the mood of the original song.  I would pay John Mayer to not sing.

I don't think Mark would agree.....   ;D

Just to keep things not to serious 'round here :)

I suspect Mark, like most of us, wouldn't be adverse to vertical or horizontal forms of exercise... ;D

Yeah this is pretty bland, sickening actually, how much would you pay, I'd equal it, haha!
