Here's some NAMM-news. Maybe you know some more? I will be there, BTW. My very first trip to the US of A.
Some things were already on sites:
Fender:
Fender will bring the singlecut electro-acoustic Kingman bass. An acoustic bass with block inlays and a Jazz-headstock.
It also has seperate heads and cabs in the Rumble-series.
There's a new P and J in the American Special Series, but I can't see what's really new, except for the Greasebucket tonecircuit.
And there are some new CS-basses. Vintage style with some modern features.
Ampeg:
Ampeg will bring a new tube-Fliptop, but also a complete new Portaflex series. No tubes though. This is a series of small digital amps, with a bit of a retro design (Chickenhead-style controls and design look a bit like an old Portaflex). The cabs have this nice chequered tolex and ofcourse the amps will fit IN the cabs. It are like 350W and 500W amps, so just modern gigging amps, but with the Ampeg sound, according to... ...Ampeg.
http://www.debassist.nl/nieuws/5597-ampeg-portaflex-serie
Warwick
Warwick has a lot of news:
They bring a complete new amp series. Combo's, heads, cabs. From very small up to 600W. Design is a bit more 'Hellborg' and Jonas also helped wiuth the technical side.
There's an new Singlecut Star Bass. Less 335 and more Framus. It has a sharp cutaway and the same passive 'mudbucker'-looking singlecoils.
The normal EB2-style Star Bass is also available as a cheaper Korean version (in gold!), and so are a Streamer and a Thumb.
Also from Korea is the cheaper series of signatures for Clayton (Gold or sunburst Stryker Reverso), Bootsy, P-Nutt, Stuart Zender and more.
For guitards: Framus will bring some affordable, very vintage looking Korean guitars.
Orange
Orange will bring two new combo's, in the Terror-series. The 500W has two 12" and the 300W has 2x10. But like with the cabs, the speakers are places BEHIND eachother.
DNA
DNA stands for David Nordschow Amps and 'David' is from 'David' on the Eden amps. Now Mr. Nordschow has his own brand and he brings all kinds of new DNA cabs to the NAMM. Amps will follow later.
Eastwood
Rob has already posted it: Eastwood brings a Ovation Magnum-kinda bass.
AER
AER brings the Amp Three with two 8" speakers.
Aguilar
Aguilar alreadyt reveiled the vintage looking and very light SL112 cab. Now they announce the Tone Hammer 500 Super Lightweight Amplifier.
Thanks, Chris.
The American Special seems like it's intended as a replacement for the Highway One, which is still made but almost as expensive. At least that's the way the guitar versions have been regarded.
The MIK Warwick EB-2 style might sell if the price is right.
Dave Nordschow got in over his head at Eden, let's hope things go better this time.
Very cool that you get to come to the States for the show Chris - should a side trip to Seattle be in the offing you'd better let me know ;)
Somebody on TB posted some new Reverends as well, they were pretty interesting, as in non Fender.
Reverend.. I used to have a Reverend Rumblefish IV Bass and I know Uwe has one. But are they building basses again?
Unfortunately no time to go to Seattle....
MIK Warwick: I think they have a RRP of around 1.800 euros in Holland, while the German one's 3.500 euros. I played the German one and that sounds good!!

I like that styling...sounds like they'll be adding them to the catalog. The extended upper horn seems to be a common factor in the current basses and guitars.
Orange? I have my new orange Gretsch, thank'ee kindly.
I'm real sick right now but if I'm over it next weekend I'd like to meetcha! 8)

I'm sure Rickenbacker will get nasty letters from their traditional fanbase for changing carpets! Don't mess with the holy recipe!!! How could they.

So they won't be coming out with a Chinese-made Lickenbackel (http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=2653.msg37164#msg37164)? :D
Dean Zelinsky's new guitar company is also showing there. No basses yet.

Perhaps they'll focus on turning out imitation Levelends (http://www.reverendguitars.com/index.html).

An old friend of mine who has known Naylor since early in his amp-making days told me the guitars were made largely of Chinese parts from the beginning, despite the "Reverend USA" name they used to use. The so-called factory is really an assembly and setup facility.
I was just about to post when I saw yours, Dave.
BTW guys, it's only the Japanese who switch their ls and rs...and it wasn't so long ago we were denigrating their products. OTH all those Orientals look the same. Funny, they say the same thing about gweilos (the equivalent of the N word applied to Caucasians).
i know it's only the Japanese, I was just following Uwe's lead from the old thread I linked to.
Sorry, I missed that.

It IS much simpler to lump everybody into one big pile. Life is complicated enough already without having to split hairs. Work smarter, not harder!

"Orientals" might look the same, but they don't talk the same. Gweilo is solely a Chinese word. For instance, the Thais call us farang, and Indonesians call us bule.
I posted something about new Squiers at the Fender-section.
Is Gibson showing up at NAMM this year?
With what? The revolution?

Maybe the CounterRevolution. A no bells and whistles relevant instrument
Maybe there will be a Gibson booth staffed by Henry's creditors.
Here's the beta site for EBMM's "Gamechanger" doodad. Not something that I can ever imagine using, but it might appeal to some people. My head was spinning after I looked at the schematics.

Have to disagree on this on. There is one of the larger dialects of the Chinese languages (I cant remember which, maybe from either the Sechuan or Yunnan provinces) That pronounces L's as R's.
Hey Ken, does that little old Chinese lady still run the Chinese takeaway near you on Hawks road? Ask her for a can of Lilt for me will ya! Just for old times sake. ;D

...
I stand collected.
And it appeals I was light all along.
Some very funny stuff here.
Actually, I always thought the "l instead of r" was a racist clichée as regards the Japanese, spawned in large part by US WW II propaganda cartoons. There are a lot of "r"-sounds in the Japanese language, I'm sure they don't say "Hiloshima" or "domo aligato (Mistel Loboto?)".
With Chinese interns at our firm I've heard it myself. It's not so much that they can't pronounce it as that shaping the sound of an r is unaccustomed to them, just like we have to try harder with "th" or you guys have issues getting the Umlauts ä, ö and ü right.
Our Japanes lresidents please speak up then. This folum is dedicated to ze scientific tluth.
China's a huge place with countless local dialects. The Chinese I know use the 'R' sound all the time, phonetically 'are" is the number 2, 'ling' is zero and Lyu is 6.
Hillbilly Sicilians commonly use a 'd' sound in place of an 'l'. instead of bella (beautiful) they say bedduh and p sounds become b's as in Bizza(what you eat) and Butana (what you...)
Nukular anyone?
Hopefully Chris can stop by Mike's booth and meet Tom Petersson, with his sig Thunderbird.

I can't remember the last time I drove down Hawks road now but the pub up near the New Malden end, I was working there one morning when a "poacher" wearing camos came in with a black bag containing what he described to the owner as "Bambi" :o

Beauty of a bass.
Did Tom rifle through Abe Lincoln's closet or something?
I like the pickup placement !
Cheap Trick is doing that whole Sgt. Peppers/Beatles thing in Las Vegas, the placement of the pups on the bass give a slightly out of phase, wooly tone. Tom's apparrel..........I think he's trying the '60s thing (maybe 1860s) ;)
Tell him not to book any gigs at Ford's Theatre.

that i would love to hear. I moved one of my pups up but his are at the extreme and his are lulls.....
Checked out the hotel lobby shows last night--caught a bit of Orianthi, Chad Smith's Meatbats, Wally Reyes Jr. & Friends, an American Indian cat known as Mickey Free, & Hot For Teacher.
All were pretty mediocre but Mickey Free would be good if he'd just Shut Up & Play!
He did a good job of playing some Hendrix songs & he's got some gorgeous axes--a black Flying V hand painted Hendrix Tribute just like Jimi's, a '58 Les Paul Tigerstriped Sunburst, a Billy Bo, etc.
He wore enuf turquoise to sink a canoe! hahaaa
He must have asked "Are you with me?" 27 times. The first few times I said "YEAH!" but after 2 dozen times I was shakin' my head NO. lol
Saw a few familiar faces--but not Chris P.
The couple who run a music store in Fla. & usually get me in ain't here again this year.
That makes 2 years in a row their biz has been slow!! Tough times
I missed you too and I missed Peterson's booth...
You must of been on a short leash Shatzi, if the magazine had given you anytime to visit around the West Coast you'd be applying for citizenship :)
Mark never seems to doubt the power of conversion!
:)
Really as they say "There's no place like this place"
I love Seattle and Washington State very much - and think once you see it you'll want to stay. Admittedly a very biased opinion. ;) I think our Leibe Chris would like it here, cosmoploitan yet the wilderness is quite near, very different from Holland.

That looks interesting...
One of Mike's fivers.
I recall speaking with him about the pickup for that, there's about 10k worth of R&D there! A good portion went to the guys (same folks in CA. that Gibson used) to develope a new die to stamp the covers.

When your R&D is only twice the price (or less) of your product you're doing really well in my experience.
