...supposedly the 10 worst states for it.

Horay for Illinois!
Cleveland always makes the list

These lists always assume people want a warm climate when they retire. Guess I'm the exception. Well, I have to crank up the snow thrower in a little while since we're in the middle of a storm, but I'm where I want to be.
Great Cleveland tourism video. :)
Doh! Reminds me of this!

The northeast doesn't fare well in that list.
My current residence - Colorado - and Washington are both outside the list!
At retirement, we haven't decided whether to stay in CO or head back to eastern WA and buy season tickets for all the Coug sports.
I hate moving with a passion and hope to die in the same house I'm living right now. If that should include my retirement years so be it !
OK, I'll agree Illinois has the biggest budget mess and the climate sucks (both too hot and to cold) and sales and property taxes are high (but not income tax) but is that really all you want to think about when considering where to retire? C'mon, we go Da Bears!!! And Lake Michigan, and corn, lots of corn. And, uh, .... um....Da Bears!! Oh, and Lakland basses, what about those, huh?
I was thinking that I'd die in saddle............
Going out like J.A.E did would work too ;)
Seriously tho, I love Washington's Olympic peninsula and after my band days are done and have no responsibilies to my Mother I'd love to live out there.
Somewhere near my favourite distillery would do - can't buy the dram in any regular store anywhere outside of Japan - well... at least within driving distance...
Somewhere in the Scottish Highlands, preferably with a West coast sea view over the Islands to enjoy the sunsets...
thinks... (somehow, I find the idea of Lady V snapping the case shut, for the last time, rather disturbing...)

Kentucky is looking good!
Married to a Kentuckian... Jackie's late uncle let me try some of the real "down home" stuff - surprised me how smooth such things can be...
I know if and when I retire I do not want to live farther south than Raleigh, NC, where I live now. No offense to farther southers, but the climate disagrees with me. I need snow and a change of seasons!
