This shop has had a Greg Lake P forever, but this is rather nice...

Did the original Fenders have the skunk stripe?
Yes, the originals had the skunk stripe.
I couldn't tell you whether or not this has all the proper features but there's no way I would consider anything like this without an independent appraisal to establish validity as well as price. Not casting aspersions on the seller, there are just too many good forgeries out there. It doesn't make sense to buy something like this on eBay.
It's close enough to visit but not to just go look...
In the links from Robert's Renaisance sale I spotted this - a little more roadworn but a much better price than the one over here...

This one IS NOT a '52, it's a '54 thru mid '57, body is contoured. I would say closer to '54 judging by the serial number (though my '55 was ser. no. 1856. Gotta check the neck pocket/neck and electronics cavity, Fender ser. nos were unreliable for dating in those years) and case. IMO the case on the '52 is not correct, should be similar to this style case which was phased out around '56.

Big red flags all over this one. But I'm sure Guitar Center will be able to verify everything accurately.
