someone onstage is in danger with all those points and it looks like she is working on a "camel toe" pretty seriously.

The marketing behind this woman is nothing short of staggering. I wonder if there's a single original thought in her plastic surgery molded head.

Nope. She's marketed for people who don't really like music, but want to say they do.

I didn't like the Ga Ga at first, but my wife did and I was gradually won over. I like the different ways she uses her voice - it can be really powerful or cute or weird, within the span of a song. I get the impression too that she is totally involved in every aspect, from the music to the fashion to the videos. And she doesn't strike me as the every-day common notion of beautiful - she has a big nose (to me, and that's not necessarily a bad thing), and a lot of the time her look is downright disturbing, plus to me she looks totally different in different costumes/videos, like it's a different person. There's usually something in her songs that I think is ridiculous but I like them anyway!

The weirdest thing to me is that she got her name because she loves Queen and so her friend named her after "Radio Gaga"...  ???

All fair comments but I struggle to get past the packaged, promoted product thing which seems more obvious than any real content to me.

Oh, now I do, thanks. Well - just like her - it doesn't fail to make an impression, does it!

I don't have issues with her. Is she a product? Yes, but largely of her own making and indivdual style. She's not Britney Spears. I know little of her music, what I've heard is edgier than most of what her competiton does though it is not my style at all. Her appearances in public are carefully crafted for maximum effect, but as someone who once regarded Alice Cooper as the epitome of rock, I can hardly criticize her for that. She seems to have more brains and self-discipline than Amy Winehouse though less of a voice. And doesn't dumb her music down as much as Madonna sometimes lamentably does. In the end, her performance package has more to do with Andy Warhol than it does with Janis Joplin. I find it hard to be negative about her and if I got a ticket to one of her shows for free, I'd go just out of curiosity and probably be splendidly entertained.

The fact that she gets so much attention just illustrates what a void there is in music with hardly anyone to fill it.  However, the story about her getting her name from the Queen song is cool.

Funny I felt the same. I dont like any pop acts, but I saw an interview with her and she seemed to be a intelligent musician that can really sing. She talked about how she never fit in and had a humble attitude about everything. She seemed genuine. My opinion changed of her, although I do not really like the whole Diva pop music thing.

Her music isn't my thing, but I think she's a slick marketer and has been clever in finding a niche.  And there's talent there, too.  No complaints here.

Agreed!  And I too get the feeling that she's in control of it all.  Think female Gene Simmons ;D

Definitely no man-gear visible in that video.

But isn't it getting more than a little absurd what goes into those videos?  I thought the actual MUSIC was supposed to be the point...but it's not in that case.

It's funny that someone mentioned Britney Spears; the guy who "found" her is the same guy who wrote and produced her (and dozens of other interchangeable pop starlets and pop groups). Here is her pre-surgery:

Her 15 minutes couldn't be up fast enough for me.

You mean like Phil Collins?  ;)

FWIW - I don't mind GaGa at all. She seems like a pretty creative person, marketing or not. For that type of music, the tunes are good, and catchy as hell. I'll take her over another faceless pop/dancefloor diva any day.

Elton John, even at his Nikita worst, never sold out like Collins did. Which is a pity as Collins is a great drummer and good singer. He redeemed himself a little with the last Genesis album he did, but some of the horrors of his solo career are unspeakable as well as unlistenable. And I don't mean just that Tarzan song either ...

well put Uwe, Alot of people seem to bash him in the Genesis days too, but the "no reply at all" is a great tune with a great bassline that i cant sot playing.

I like her.  She's theater (so it's high-drama- so was Greek Tragedy), and has a nimble, expressive voice.  It may be expressing a lot of cheap and easy sentiment in the view of some, but there's a lot of cheapness in the popular culture, across-the-board, to express something about.  Anything can get tired, but that's why you can change the channel.  I do eventually, but not before I'm intrigued by her first.
And me a die-hard old-school rock-head... Zep, Mountain, old Jeff Beck, Motorhead,...

I've got no problems with her. Actually think she's a good writer and sings better than most of the other pop chicks (especially Madonna) and plays decent keyboards.

She gigged around NYC clubs in bands paying dues and then some, until she changed her image and found a niche that got her exposure. Brilliant self-marketer.

So, I cannot fault her for getting her break after working at it. At least she's a little twisted.

Let's see how long she lasts though before all the pressure makes her crack and she does a Britney Spears, shaved her head and runs off with a back-up dancer :)
