I was in a local store today and they had a 2009 Tbird on the floor. I knew they had gone back to the rosewood board, but I hadn't seen on yet. Good move imho, Ebony seems to have a more snappy attack (like maple) and the rosewood just feels and sounds warmer. The bass itself was not bad by Gibson bass standards, Finish and workmanship far above what I have seen in the past. I was surprised :o I might go for one down the road. I really like that rosewood board !
Nice report. I'll need to check the new ones out as well. Thanks for the heads up. I remember hearing about the change but it hadn't really registered. I'll be on the lookout now to try one.
What did they want for it, GoT?
I went to various local shops looking for a Gibby but not one shop has them. I was hoping to compare one to the Epis to see just how different they are but alas, no luck.
Best Buy has them
I guess Uwe's going to have to make an order once he returns to the Fatherland. He may not (ahem) collect for finishes, but a rosewood board should make a big enough difference.

my price was 1080.00 plus tax
UK price I just found was £1099
1080.00 plus tax is a great price!
The big guys list them @ 1499.95, I say go for it! ;)
$1499.00 to be exact! They're going for more than that used on Ebay..

No kidding!
I thought they'd used rosewood boards for years on the regular Sunburst model while the Classic White had the ebony fretboard.
$1499 is the MAP, but that doesn't mean they have to sell it at that price. There are stores who will sell for less, and at $1080 Scott's local store is still making money.

If I could I would. The Hiwatt 2150 arrives this week. A mans got to know his limitations ;)
I believe the use of ebony and rosewood as fretboard material has alternated in the years since the TBird was reintroduced in 1987 without too much thought given to it. Probably has more to do with what fretboard wood they have overstocked at any given period. From a visual aspect, I prefer rosewood and from an aural one probably too. The big plus of ebony is durability, but with my herd that doesn't really count. I don't think I'll ever wear frets, much less the fretboard on one of my basses down.
Going back to the TBird. With the reissue having stayed the same since 1987 with only minor changes as regards fins, pup output and fretboard material, the whole line is getting a bit long in the tooth by now. About time, gibson came up with something nre while retaining the essence. Sigh, I know what you chrome imbeciles are now thinking ...
I'm thinking a Dusk Tiger Robot Zoot Suit Inverse Thunderbird would be right up Henry J's alley.
" Sigh, I know what you chrome imbeciles are now thinking ... "
Hey now! I resemble that remark ;)
Not just chrome, but a tune-o-matic bridge with tailpiece. Scott could make a killing! Let's get that proper headstock back as well. They could make a few of those 9 plys maple instead of walnut and strengthen that skinny neck!
>chrome imbeciles<
Hey now! Studies have shown that chrome attracts more women. Or something..... :P
I'm with George. Only make the bass Korina and thin maple strips in place of the walnut, Rosewood board, Tune-O-Matic bridge, Big Headstock, Big Tuners and how about Orville pickups????? That would MURDER!!!!!!!!!

And make the them out of MDF - that would be rainforest friendly ;D Plus it machines great - sound quality shouldn't be an issue :P
Zoot suit...? TEQUILABIRD...!
Chromebeciles?
Chromosexuals. ;D
Chromatrons.
What is it about chrome? I go all wobbly looking at our drummer's cymbal stands.
Beware the dark-side... ;D
Chromepervs.

I've had the chance to play 60's and 70's Thunderbirds at various shops around here and I just can't say that their sound was really all that different. If it comes down to subtle tone differences then a more balanced, svelte Modern T-Bird has to be the winner in my mind.
There was no better time to chime in then following memoirs of car coitus.
Car coitus is an American aberration mostly spawned by warped puritan views that lead to a reality-evading preference of parents to rather not see what is then happening anyway (and smudging car seats)! Is there a developed country with more teenage pregnancies than the US and roomier cars? See, case proven!
Back to the other topic. Other than in this forum of chromespotters, I think most everybody would agree that a modern TBird wouldn't be viewed as outlandish if you stuck it in an early sixties TV show.I think it's a faithful in the spirit of what a TBird is as you can be without being slavish. And sixties and modern TBirds sound more akin than Bicentennials do with either.
My first sex was at 17 with a six year old...

That was certainly a heartwarming rescue story, one that the firefighters can tell their grandkids about.
Even Sherlock Holmes said he loved a good pipe - but I'm not sure that was what he had in mind.
At least the pipe was stainless.

I never quite understand these stories. I'm sure if a couple of large firemen were standing over me with cutting equipment, my state of arousal would decline very rapidly.
Good to see nothing's changed around here.
