How excited am I! :o
Look what I just won

Unexpectedly I might add. Definately thought i'd be outbid.
The only problem is it is USA shipping only, and I told the seller i'd find a US address to send it to. That was half an hour ago, before I had a chance to ask anyone.
So, does anyone fancy doing me a favour? Obviously i'll cover all costs, and you're welcome to have a go on it. Damn, i'll even buy you a set of strings for your efforts ;)
Looks a good one... well done...
Congrats on a great deal! Tres cool.
Wish I could help but you know where I am located...
(on Armistice Day) where are the Americans when you need them... They usually step in to save the day... ;)
Very nice! It is a short scale bass though. Someone asked the seller a question and he posted that it was 34 inch scale. That is even better than my EB-3 score!
Jules let me know how I can help. I am am in Rochester NY, at least I am on the right coast.
I can help too, although I'm in TX.
You got it for a reasonable price, the early two Hagstrom pickup models don't come up as often.
Hey did I mention you have exquisite taste in basses? ;D

Awesome score on that one!
Always willing to help out with overseas shipping if you or anyone else here needs it.
Great score Jules!
You lucky b*stard  :toast:
+1 That'll have a killer tone and I love the looks!
It must be Guild Week - though your original Jet Star rather upstages my reissue Starfire. :P
That does look nice. When they did the Dearmond Jetstar they turned it into something really ugly, whereas the Guild is just different enough to be interesting. The natural one looks good too.
Good luck with bringing it back to the UK. Looks like there's plenty of help on call.

The DeArmond Jetstar is a reissue of the original mid-60s Guild Jetstar with the Gumby-shaped body.
This bass, with the later Gibson-inspired body, may have been called Jetstar at first but I always knew it as the JS. The 1970 Guild catalog on Jules' site shows it as the JS.
What's that coming over the hill...? It's the Cavalry...!
Gumby. ???

You see, we never had anything like that in my repressed English childhood. The nearest we got was Muffin the Mule.

(I only bring that up so Uwe can accuse me of peddling filth again.)
Thanks for all the offers of help guys. Yeah, i'm really looking forward to this. I always intended to get a JS2, but expected to get the 70s humbucker version. Glad I got this though, and very surprised. It was one of those bids that I really wasn't expecting to win with.
Looking forward to playing it out!
That reminds me of the strangest JS2 I ever saw, about 5-6 years ago in San Antonio, it had one Hag pickup and one later humbucker and it appeared to be factory original. A few years later Robert (Hornisse) mentioned having owned one like that. Since he's only about 90 miles up the road, I'd guess it's the same bass he owned.
Anyway, I'm glad you got this one.

I've seen two photos of (believed) factory original JS IIs that had a Bisonic in the neck, and a small almost-guitar-humbucker sized pickup in the bridge. It was another type of Hag pickup - like this one: http://www.guitarchives.nl/guitarsgalore/parts_detail.php?id=4 (http://www.guitarchives.nl/guitarsgalore/parts_detail.php?id=4) It had a small plastic bezel/surround.
Wish I would have saved the pics (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k125/0chromium0/forums/smilies/icon_doh.gif)
My '73 JSII is sitting next to me on my desk at work as I type this. ;D

Good memory Dave! I bought that one from a store in Seattle. It had a back neck unfortunately. I got it cheap though for around $225 IIRC. That later humbucking pickup appeared on those Hagstrom Swede basses too.
The first leg of the trip is complete ! Jules your Guild arrived today in one piece !

Wow - looks great! Congratulations Jules!
Very nice! I've gotta get one some day! Great score.
Herr Dasson is playin' with other peoples toys... ;D
I love to play with toys ;)
Just don't get caught throwing them out of the pram... ;)
That made me think... not being seen in the US (at a guess - a quintessentially British program), there is this nutty UK chap called James May (from the car program "Top Gear) that has been "playing with toys" in a BIG way... this weeks program featured a Scalextric track (toy racing cars for those that don't know) that was over 2 miles long - a world record... the next program (being screened over Christmas) features a model train track (00 guage) over 10 miles long... there will also be a Lego house "life-size"...
Thank god you didn't mention the full-size Airfix model Spitfire from the first programme.
I like slot cars!
the truss rod cover on that Guild looks strange.

Maybe so but it looks original to me. In the later years I think it was plain.
it looks round.with the bellshape printed on.i don't doubt its originality.

I just couldn't have been that cruel, Phil, what with the Yanks not having access to BBC iPlayer... ;D
All I have left of mine (slots and trains) are 2 small goods trains... an 020 and an 030... I have a daughter... we have Barbies in the loft... ;)
Congrats on the "new" bass ELJ, it looks great!
I've always been very interested in the Jet Stars. How would you describe their sound?
I wonder if they ever made any lefties.
heres one with the non-matching pickups.

That looks just like my old one. That is the Hagstrom pickup they used on the Swede basses. I thought it sounded good.
Congrats ELJ! Didja get her yet?
I'm guessing this small humbucker is also the same pickup as used on the 70s Hagstom HIIBN (I have one of those)
I really don't like the combination, it just looks wrong. Like someone added a bridge pickup. I'm sure it sounds good though.
And no still waiting for my baby... but i'm sure it'll be here any day. Come on postie!
