Sorry, I'm just proud. Have to post this:D
The La La Lies:
Last weekend we played at a venue in Amsterdam and an A&R manager of Roadrunner Records (Kiss, Parlor Mob, ...) was checking out a band. We played next and he was still around. He liked us better than the band he came for and now he's trying to get us to support USA band Parlor Mob and he wants to talk about a record deal:)
A day before I was contacted by my favourite Dutch venue (Vera) which wants us to play there.
Today we got a phonecall from a Dutch TV show called De Wereld Draait Door. Primetime and I believe the only Dutch tv show at the moment with live music, but eacht artist (one per evening) only plays 60 seconds. It's watched by milllions of Dutch people and people still talk to me about the time I was on (see the 'impact of TV' thread). They maybe want us to play, but we had to answer some questions first. I'll keep ya posted, but I'm excited!!
Wow Chris you guys deserve it. Congrats, I always enjoyed your music.
Don't appologize. Thats great news! I too have enjoyed the music you have posted, and you have every reason to be proud!
Geniaal stoer, Chris! Eummm verkeerde forum....
What a great oppurtunities Chris. You deserved it. " De werled draait door" that show is one of the most watch tv shows I believe. And roadrunner record sthat's not just a avarage DIY label. Things are looking greatly positive.
Will you call yourself Doug Stryker once you're famous?!!!
Stikk post here?
Remember us?
What has Loes to say about all this?
It won't be long and the reporters will have d(o)ug up what you did with Frâulein Rommel: "Lalalies Bassist mercilessly di-di-ditched American fiancee at tje advent of szartdom."
I knew Chris P when he wasn't famous yet.
Congrats! Absolutely no need to apologize - you've earned it!
+1 on the Doug Stryker alter ego - it'll fit in well when the paparazi dig up the Fraulien story ;D
Congratulations, Chris!
Dave's gonna have kittens... "FAN MAIL...!"
Good luck...
Well done Chris, good luck with it all :)
I really like the sound of the La La Lies.
thats great man. now you can get those mahogony shoes you've always wanted
Good for you and your bandmates. :toast:
I hope it all works out to your satisfaction.

I see............. you've ditched me for ze bright lights eh..............
Wish you the best Chris!
Very Cool Chris!!!
Fantastic :toast:
Thanks guys!
Of course nothing is sure yet. We haven't signed anything and you never know if we both agree with the same deal. The same with TV. They called us with some questions, we answered them and know we have to wait... But it's already nice people are this positive! I hope to know more soon!
I'll think about the Doug Stryker name;)
But now the big isse. If TV happens: T-Bird? Ricky 4005? Buzzard? Just a P?
BaCHbird!!
Dont forget that star makeover!
very cool, Chris, and play your bird!
Awesome!!!
Best news of the day so far!!!
Excellent! Well done. Yeah, play the BaCHBird...
Good news man! Choose your options carefully. :) Hoping for the best.
Play the 4005!
If TV's involved, you have just got to fly Mark over... ;D
If the BaCHBird get's the slot, questions will be asked, then orders may follow, then prices may hike... (talk to Roman about endorsements... ;))
No news yet. Rob wants me to play the BaCH, the local Fender store wants me to play the P, a friend who's Eastwood-agent suggested an Eastwood, haha! But maybe I fly Mark over indeed and let him take my place:D
Have to bring a 'Bird with me honey, you know nothing else will do! ;)
Hey Chris! congrats on the well deserved reactions your band are getting!
You should use the Fernandes...

There can be absolutely no discussion on what bass Doug will play: the Bicentennial. That bass set him off and one day he will give an interview in his Californian sea view mansion (with his "fiancee" two decades younger than him unobstrusively in the background crooning "Honey, the Van Halens are coming for dinner, he wants to play his demos to you, shall I invite some girlfriends for the pool party?")and lounging back in a spacious designer sofa Chris will say in that mellow Californian accent with only a slight trace of Dutch: "You know, it's innuhresting, but in my formative years in Holland, not only was I skinny as a rake (the fiancee in the background: "You still are to me, hon!"), I also played a Thunderbird, even took it to our first TV gig, you know how the rest is history ... Kimberly (= the much younger fiancee) just auctioned it off for charity last week ... I feel I owe society something in return for how good life has been to me and besides those Warwick endorsements have served me well ... These day people don't even remember how some late English bassist called John Entwistle came up with the Chrizzard bass shape I'm known for, back then they were all called Buzzards ...".
QuoteThere can be absolutely no discussion on what bass Doug will play: the Bicentennial. That bass set him off
I could not agree more, when I think of Chris it is with his bird (not that buzzard thing!)
Good Luck, Break a Leg and all that stuff ;D. Let me pass along a little advice that every up and coming Rock Star should hear, "stay away from the powders" . I guess it meant a lot more a few years ago , but it 's still good advice ;)
Rick
Keep us posted on where this goes...
Uwe: I laughed my ass of.. I'll save this one!
Rahock: Someone offered me coke once. But I refused. I can't wait for that aftershow drink, though...
cos...
Next friday we're on!
And yes, it has to be the Bicentennial!

What? You mean you don't want to stay up all night, grinding your teeth, and rambling on about completely unimportant things? ;)
Chris I am keeping my finger crossed don't forget us little people !

You're on what? the TV gig, the Parlor Mob gig or the club gig?
Whichever it is, congratulations.
TV show? Thunderbird for sure.
On Heat...
Now how in heck do I get Dutch TV...?
Right on, Chris! Look forward to a youtube clip 8)
'Who's Kimberley??' asked Loes ;D
We're on tv tomorrow night. It will be on the internet the day after, so I'll post it! This programm has over a million and a half viewers. That's a lot if you imagine we have 16 million people in Holland and we play exactly at the same time as the prime time news bulletin, the eight O'clock news.
No Parlor Mob news yet.
And yes: Today I'll restring the Bird!
We only play one minute and ten seconds, which every band does. Even the biggest Dutch bands who play there. So yesterday we rehearsed 1.10 minutes of Lies time after time
... but isn't that a Cyndi Lepper song...? ;D

Next thing you know, they'll sign up Captain Lou Albano as adviser.
We have a good Dutch manager called Colonel Parker jr.
And I'll post a vid ASAP.
Sure it's not Colonel Sanders...? (don't forget - wear dark clothes... more flattering for the figure, dear...)
I heard it's one of those diet shows where sub-celebs slim down in public?
Rumors that the band is now called The Ka-ka-kalories are largely unsupported though.
Yep, we are playing in hot stage lights for an hour on a scale so people can see live if we lose any weight. ;D
I have a hunch that Chris will perform naked, that happens on Dutch TV all the time. In that case I recommend the Ric 4005 because only its body will be large enough to make the program save for minors.
:)
Reminds me of a local band here, called Fill Bloom. This name is a nod to Phil Bloom. The first woman to appear naked on Dutch television in 1967. Of course Holland was very devided and even the government talked about it.
BTW: I take the Thunderbird, hanging below crotch level;)
BTW: I'm very nervous at the moment.
Video to come?

Don't be nervous. You've done this enough in clubs to just go up and be yourself. It's really not all that different. So, plonk away and have a great time. It'll show on camera.
Focking hell. Just seen it on telly. It's was great. Very short as always i nthat show. But it was great. Me like. Great song: Lies.
Was it live TV?
Just saw Chris and his band on TV.
It was great. And way too short.
Kick ass rock band on prime time national TV. That doesn't happen every day, right?
Well tonight it did.
Never seen Chris move as much as tonight. Chris was waving his Thunderbird like a kamikaze pilot gone beserk.
Rock n Roll!! :toast:
He was moooovin 'n' groooovin baby.
When do we get to see the YouTube?
Don't forget me, Doug!!! I was always your best friend here ...
He's probably exhausted now ...
I guess I'm the famous "ex" ;)

Good work, Chris. :toast:
I only have the same version as Rob, but monday an official version will follow. We also played the whole songe to warm up the audience and that'll follow too!
Thanks guys!
I'm a bit drunk and happy! Two bookings in the pocket and lots and lots and lots of mails;D
Sounds good, the Bird looks good. Bit disappointed by Chris's choice of shirt though.
Coolness!
You guys did a great job!
But, I must agree with Mark, the shirt was just a shirt - surely the months long tete-a-tete with the Fraulien imparted some sense of fashion :P
Nice! Your singer looked a little nervous at first, but loosened up once you started playing. It's hard to get things across in a minute and a half with that camera action. I liked it! The T-Bird cut through everything pretty well.
Thanks guys! I hope to post a better quality vid soon and a longer version we played for the show.
And the shirt: It was a nice expensive Ben Sherman, out of my large Ben Sherman collection (see www.myspace.com/chrispdekker and the the Ben Sherman pic album), matching the bass! So no more bad words!!
The official vid is available! Go to www.thelalalies.nl and see it. Click on the vid to see it larger at the wesbite of the program.
Exellent job Chris. You sounded great.

Excellent.
And we hardly noticed your weight issues.
TV makes you look fatter, but a friend already texted me I didn't;)
Why would it matter either way?
No, but it's an ongoing joke here. ;D
Great performance and song, Chris! I hope it's the first of many...
I'll second that...
Next thursday we have a meeting with Roadrunner Records. You'll never know. Only problem is that this is the only tv programm with live bands in The Netherlands!!! Awfull isn't it? Five days one minute... That's all....
There are lots of other countries out there, Chris... ;)
Ken's right. There's Andorra, Liechtenstein, San Marino....
Australia ;D
Texas... ??? Oh, crap I wasn't supposed to let that out the bag was I? ;D
You can see the longer version of the song here now:
http://dewerelddraaitdoor.vara.nl/
Looked and sounded great, Chris, and you were well-advised with the TBird!
Thanks Uwe!
I'm confused (what else is new?). You got to record the full version for the website and a separate shorter version for the TV show?
We do have to watch Dave more closely, all these lapses ...
Could happen to any of us, err... what's your name again...?
My name? Al's hymen of course.
We played the shorter version live on TV in front of 1.4 million people. The longer version was a warm up for the studio audience only.
Very Jet'ish, your music, in a good way.
Al's Hymen... is that some kind of f... sorry, nearly slipped up there... some kinda truck-stop cafe...?
What were you playing through, Chris...? kept missing it... issues on the playback... noticed your hand awfully high up the neck at one point... ;D
Definitely something to be proud of... 8)

Thanks for explaining. I could see that it wasn't a longer version of the live cut, even if certain other people didn't notice.

What was that about lapses? Seems like Dave's not the one that needs to worry.
Hey, I knew him before he was famous..........well, almost!!!! Congrats Chris, I'm envious, but too old and tired to do what you're doing! Enjoy!
Those "certain other people" must have been the usual instigators. We must find them. Quick.
Don't look at me... :o
Punishment must be ruthless ...
Like I said this is the only Dutch tv show with live music, so we were already proud of these 70 seconds:) And indeed the other version is a studio-audience-only version. Next step is a meeting with a big record label, next thursday, but you'll never know...
@ Uwe: Thanks, we hear more about sounding like Jet. No problem:) I like that band.
@ Kenny: You can try and check the 70 seconds at www.thelalalies.nl The vid on top. Below is our vid. Yep, I go to a high A on the E-string, which looks quite high on a Bird:) Before I was adjusting my strap as low as possible, but with still a possibility to reach this A, ha ha! Sunday I had a gig and some songs were hard to do with such a long strap, but hey, rock 'n roll! No Mark King positions for me;)
Ah yes, the Pete Way school of T'Birding... ;D
I saw that one with no problems, Chris... the issue is at my end... ISP/BT issue at the moment...
And Uwe, be gentle with us all... no invasions...
Quote from: Chris P. on October 13, 2009, 12:42:23 AMSunday I had a gig and some songs were hard to do with such a long strap, but hey, rock 'n roll! No Mark King positions for me;)
:) ;D :P
The "Missionary Position" is reasonably easy, but the "Mark King" position takes some slappin' to get right...
Victor has a good go at the MK position. Doesn't quite make it though. Probably a good thing.
I reckon players who play that high have spent way too much time early on in their playing careers sitting down and playing. I get the impression that Pete Way like a lot of us, was out playing gigs while still learning to play. Just my humble opinion. :)
There are limits how low you can go without getting your ankle all awkward for all but the most rudimentary stuff. I don't like the look of "bass under the chin"-players either, but if you look at the more busy great players - JE, JB, Chris Squire, Sir Paul -, none of them has his bass slung down Sid Vicious style low. You can't fool ergonomics. Hell, even Gene Simmon's (not a root note player)has his Axes and Punishers comparatively high.
I agree that lower looks cooler though, but it inhibits my playing.
Playing lower may be harder on your left (or fretting hand) but its way more comfortable on your right(or picking/fingering etc)hand. i can play way faster down low.
and wearing your bass low should be refered to as Dee Dee style not Sid Vicious.

True. But at least 30 years of death haven't deteriorated Sid's bass skills at all.
Is he mostly dead, or all dead? :P
Or, Like Generalissmo Francisco Franco, seriously dead?
I like to record sitting down. So I can do everything much easier. But live I choose for the looks;)
Skate rat says it right: I like my right arm stretched out as much as possible but that's hard for your left hand. So I always have the bass a bit besides me (Think BB King; please no jokes about both our potbellies, Uwe ;D) and sometimes with the neck a bit upwards (Think a bit early Bill Wyman. Jokes about our mutual love for much too young girls are alright).

I mentioned Captain Lou Albano back on page 3. Now I read that he died yesterday.
Jeez, Dave... just don't mention mine... :o
Ken, don't start stomping around in Cyndi Lauper videos or wearing rubber bands in your beard, and you'll be okay.
AAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHHHHH.... HE MENTIONED MY NAME.... HE MENTIONED MY NAME.... I'M DOOMED...
okay, who said that, I distinctly heard someone say, "phew, we might get some normality back in this joint..."
Come on, stand up, show yourself... (arms folded, foot tapping impatiently on the ground...)
Sounds like he was quite a colourful character... we are all diminished by the loss of these wonderful eccentrics... RIP Lou...
