They think it's either a Melody Maker pickup or a Les Paul Signature bass pickup.
But I'm quite sure it's neither of both...
My best guess is that it isn't even a Gibson pickup. But maybe a Maxxon copy of a Gibson Lo-z...
But the dimensions are weird: 3" x 1" x 1" ( that 3" must be wrong...)
What do you guys think?

weird "gibson" bass pickup on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-Vintage-NOS-Gibson-Bass-Pickup-Melody-Maker_W0QQitemZ120229135373QQihZ002QQcategoryZ41429QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Not a Melody Maker, they're long and thin. Doesn't look like a LP either.
I wonder what makes him think this is a Gibson product, or a bass pickup. Maybe it was in a box that says that, but that doesn't make it so.
Les Paul recording bass? The only oval pickups I recall were on those, but the size does seem a little small.

No way. Those have the Gibson logo embossed. And they have eight wires. And they're much bigger.
The size given dosn't make sense for anything I can think of....At fist glance I thought...half of a Mustang bass pup but it's too big. The most Gibson-like features I can see are the threaded brass inserts ala the Bill Lawrence pups on G3s and the really thin leads. Mystery!?! I wonder what it ohms out to?
Cheers,
S.
The only Gibson I've heard of near the 2.2K range is the Charlie Christian guitar pickup, which was about 2.5k and uses AWG #38 wire. And this looks nothing remotely like a Charlie Christian.
Got me stumped.
He mentions early LPS in his ad, but those had cream covers, no?

He also mentions Marauder and Challenger basses which, while an interesting concept, did not exist (unless I didn't get the memo).
I was thinking LPR guitar, but after looking at that - I don't think so.
I'm leaning towards... not a Gibson.
I bet if you ask there is an emboss gibby under the plastic wrap. If there is its a LP recording guitar pup, I bet.

Maybe?
