Group....
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement piece of felt for an early 60's EB Bass Mute?
THANKS!!!
I'm guessing here, but I would try a piano shop. They would have felt in various thicknesses.
You can try a hardware store. Many still carry old-school felt weather stripping.
Anyone know the proper dimensions?
THANKS!
Jules!
Last time I reloaded one, I bought felt door weather stripping and cut it down with an Xacto knife.
Mute...? never heard of such a thing... not in my dictionary... ;D

Come on now... Cut me some slack!
I honestly just want it there for the look... it will not be muting anything!
I'm going to use my '62 EB-3 for a CREAM tribute I am putting together called "BADGE".
...and because I am such a nut when it comes to specifics, I got to have it on there, Jack Bruce left his on.
All in good humor, I'll check my parts box.

Yes... I know!
Curt, you must be the only living person on earth with a desire for one of those. If Scott doesn't find something, I can send you one of mine. (Because you are so heart-felt about it - horrible pun intended.) I always take them off except on the Hobbit Les Paul Recording where they do not impede bridge adjustment.
Jack Bruce might have kept his, but probably only because he didn't know how to take it off or was concerned about the tilt then. I never heard him with Cream with a muted sound.

Most suprised to learn that our guitarist wants to drop this into the new set (as discussed last night) and do some more recordings... ;D ;D ;D
Gonna have to plumb "Gorgeous George's" Mudbucker into my T'bird pre refin...
Gonna have to push him into doing Badge... ;)
Yeah Badge would be better Ken. Sunshine falls into the same category as Stairway to Heaven and Hotel California for me. Brilliantly written and recorded songs but bashed to death by media of various sorts for far too long. I'm over them. Been jamming on Sleepy Time Time with my original band over the last few weeks. Its kinda refreshing after songs like Sunshine which always get dragged out at gigs where other muso's get up and play with us because most ppl seem to know it.

Agreed, Jack Bruce's sound in CREAM was the anti-muted sound!
I want it on there only for the look.
Trust me... that mute will never get raised up onto the strings!
Once again, thanks Uwe... you have really helped me out lately!
Oh, come on. Snug it up there and let the muffled tones fly once in a while.

Is that "fly" or "flubber"? ;D
I can understand people playing fingerstyle might use the mute but for me it's totally useless. The felt was gone already when I got the EB-3. I still have the mute assembly left on since it's not in the way for proper bridge height. I ripped the rubber mute off the bridge cover (I understand some, not all came with that on Rippers?, Triumphs?) I bought from Graham (Rumblecat) also.
I likes me some flubber sometimes :)

That mute was reloaded with old mousepad renderings-

Mousepads are also useful replacements for foam under pickups.
