I talked with the regional Gibson rep. today we were talking about the Gibson reissues Grabber Ripper etc. I mentioned this forum and told him about our intrest in new non-reverse Thunderbirds, he told me that he had been talking with store owners about product lines and that he reported his findings to Gibson. I told him I thought a reissue would sell fairly well, he said he would pass the information on to Gibson and also said he would check the forum out.
At the same time the Hal Leonard rep. was there and he heard our discussion and mentioned what Mike Lull was doing and thought it was a good idea for the reissue also (He's a bass player also)So maybe just maybe, we'll have to see what happens.

It would be amazing if they actually reissued the nonreverse.

Can't hurt to ask them. If it comes up enough maybe they'll get the hint.
He had his laptop open with his connection with Gibson showing the Ripper & Grabber I was looking over his shoulder at the page, after he got done talking I introduced myself and told him about our intrest. He told me he was glad I told him because one of the reasons he was there is because Gibson is intrested in finding out what reissues buyers might be looking for to increase sales. He said he'll check the forum out as I suggested.
Last time Gibson rolled into town at the House Of Guitars I talked at length with the rep about basses. After I blathered on for about half a hour he pulled me aside and whispered look man I'm sorry but I'm a drummer I have no idea what you are talking about. :rolleyes:

In most bass fora you have to scroll a good while before (a) you stumble about someone mentioning Gibson, (b) saying something not inane/clichée about Gibson bass building. So I guess this forum and Jules' could tell Gibson something about the potential market, because the otherwise diluted Gibson bassist population is so concentrated here.
So is it a race to the finish? May the best manufacturer win. 8)

I guess they are, maybe they figure if it isn't on their forum it dosen't matter. Apparently Gibson is going to be re-visiting their old product line to see what sells. I would suspect that because of the way things are going with the music business they're likely to try anything to increase sales.
Bass related stuff on the official Gibson forums I have seen is a reason not to buy a Gibson bass. A mix between superficial and plain terrible.
I would not worry about the BaCHbirds, Gibson never copyrighted the shape, the can't do anything about it.............
Lull's making openly making Thunderbirds, showing them at NAMM..........Because Gibson can't do anything about it, Mike and about 12 other smaller builders were involved in some legal actions brought by Gibson with regard to this. The judge laughed in their face and it was thrown out of court, so while we may not want to shout it out to the world we needn't be overly paranoid about this either.

I like your optimism John. I don't think production costs will have any bearing - My guess is that they'll make 350 (if any), and charge significantly more than the new Grabber.

It is simple design and cnc technology makes this laughably easy to do. Still Jules is right - if it is a "reissue" or "special run" they'll jack the price up so as to make the collectors think it something special.
No reason not to price this at $1200.00 but greed. Even less when you consider a single pickup version.
In all probality it will be a custom shop bass.
