If I end up with it, are there any recommendations for a stand best suited for the T-bird? The last thing I want is for it to fall over and knock the headstock off.
-
Two important elements:
- the bottom must pivot to accommodate the angle of the body
- the neck support should have a retainer or "seat belt" to keep the bass from falling forward

I also have this stand with a strap for the neck and a kind of 'fork' at the bottom, which follows the shape of the body. Fits perfectly.
Normally I have it in a stand for three or five guitars, Those sideways things. Perfect for a Bird.
But the best places are around your neck or in a case.

Good luck and if you get it post pictures.

Thanks all! The guy's son bought it new, played it about once and went back to his P and J basses. The serial indicates it was built in 2006, has new strings and comes with a leather-covered hard case. From the pics, it sure looks new. It's an Epi, by the way.
How much are the pickups on those things?
Will definitely post pics if I get it.

The Hercules stand is nice. http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/GS412B.html (http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/GS412B.html)

Those are great....I have one for my T-bird....
But all my basses hang on these when not in use, mounted into studs...http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/GSP28WB.html (http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/GSP28WB.html)

If it's an Epi, than it should have a maple neck, so I would not worry much. Gibsons used mahogany which were prone to break.

Here's the new Thunderbird with the Fender amp. The sound out of this think is freakin' amazing! I'm happy. :)
Oh, and the comments people have about neck dive are all true, although the whole thing is not as heavy as I expected it to be.

Welcome to the Epiphone side of life, got the same bass (coffee-table finish RAWKS)!
-
Congratulations Denis~ Mighty purty!
I dig that rack you've got, Scott! Verry Coool
The amp hanger is pretty damn coool too, Basvarken.
The wall hangers are best for the studio & home to keep 'em outa the way where they're nice an' SAFE!!!

Thanks much! Looking over the T-bird before I took her home last night, I was honestly surprised that I was looking at a bass which only costs $300 even when new. The quality of it is incredible. I ran the numbers before I went to look at it on Guitar Dater Project, which said it could be a Korean or Chinese-built one and it turns out this one is Korean, made in 2006.
I'll have to get the wall hangers this weekend.

Congratulations!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Thunderbirds ! Nice bass !

But suppose he lives in a tent?
-
I uh, er, have a tent, but it's for recreational purposes only. Besides, I'd rather not have grass and pigeon poop on my new bass.
I'm amazed the T-bird is passive!

Amazed? You're joking right?

congrats Denis, I also have many good experiences with my Epi....although it's not my #1 stage monster, I use the thing quite often, despite the neck being a "smidge" wider at the nut.
and my Dillion, and my Jackson-tbirds havd 1-5/8 nut width.
(shameless "other" brand honorary mention )

Damn! Now you've gone and spilled Fender's "relic" secret. >:(
-
Well, the new Epiphone Thunderbird Pro will be active but of course all Gibson and Epiphone birds are passive. Like a bass should be:)
