Does anyone know anything about this bass? This isn't for myself but for a friend in Holland who is thinking about buying one. I think it's a Warwick clone and made in Poland, but I'm not even sure about that. In all honesty, up until today, I had never even heard of Fame basses.
It's a Warwick copy marketed by a German distributor. No idea who makes it, never seen one in person.
Fame is the 'house brand' of the very large German Music Store in Cologne. I believe they're the only one who sell Fame.
Fame has like everything: Cheap guitar combo's which look like Fender combos, guitars, effects, studio gear, mics, accessoiries, basses, everything and even a 300W full tube bass head! And that one's very cheap too! I tried one, but the noises it made when pulling some switches.... Not very promising,
But the Fame Baphomet indeed are Eastern Europe made Warwick copies and I heard quite good stories about them, especially if you keep the low price in mind. Your Dutch friend has to visit www.basgitaarforum.nl That's THE Dutch bass forum and I believe it has some Fame owners.
www.musicstore.de if I'm right
Then to me Fame sounds a lot like Rogue or Stagg. This guy is a new bassist, although he is quickly getting good. But he still doesn't know much about buying basses. I sent a message to him relaying the info that I found here.
Following Chris' link I found this: http://www.musicstore.de/de_DE/EUR/Baesse/E-Baesse/cat-BASS-BASEBASS -- at those prices I would guess the Fame is a few notches above a Rogue or a Stagg.
Yep, Fame has really cheap sh*t, but also a bit better stuff. I guess these basses are made of nice wood, but with cheaper hardware and in countries with cheap labour costs.
I think this is a bit like the Rockbass series of Warwick.
I'm passing along all this info through a third person. In a very indirect and extremely complicated way this affects me, too. I'm really hoping he will get the best bass possible. Based on what I'm seeing so far, I don't really like this one. But what he decides to do of course remains to be seen.
He ended up getting an Ibanez.
