Interesting that with all the tinkering, rebuilding and modding on these forums, I've yet to see any SX devotees "come out of the closet" in our little corner of cyberspace... Anybody?
I have had several over the years all fine bases for the money. People make way to much about the hardware not being up to snuff, perfectly usable imho. Another thing people gripe about are the strings and set up, well I have paid 2k plus for a bass and the factory set up is never to my liking the first thing I do with any bass is change the strings to my favorite and set up the bass. Here is my shop bass a SX 75 J It plays better than most 70's Fenders. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/godofthunder59/75J002.jpg)
Scott, howcum you don't just slap an SX neck on your Fender for the time being? They're cheap enough...
I've got two SXs at the moment - a Jag and a maple-necked P, plus one of their rosewood/block J-necks on my Frankenstein P-Bass Special (the one with the TB bridge pickup). So that's 2.5 SX units in my posession... Great stuff for banging around with. Wish I had grabbed one of those T-Birdy Brice deals awhile back.
My Jazz neck is usable no need to buy a cheap neck, besides I use the J for our Zep tribute set SX would look kinda cheap on the headstock.
I've got a few SXs.

Dee's widow Maria sold it.

My favourite bass from rondomusic isn't a SX but a Brice.

Nice, that one looks like the new Ibanez bass.
I do like the looks of that Brice. I wonder if those humbucker-looking pickups really are single coil.
Yeah I've been threatening to buy one of the sunburst ones for awhile. AFAIK, they are single coils - there was an active version with humbuckers - but I haven't seen it on the site lately.
How stable are the necks on the SX basses? I've thought about picking one up to play around with, but the price point always scares me a little.
I have had several SX basses all very good for the $. No problems with the necks at all. They need a set up out of the box and a little adjustment to the truss rod. Once set up they have all played very well, better than a lot of basses I have paid much more for.

I've had 3 that I've played with so far (all P bass styles). I am no luthier or Instrument tech but I used the SX's to learn and get used to doing a whole bunch of things that I would never have been game to attempt on my more expensive basses. Neck setups, nuts, truss rod adjustment etc.
2 of them were very stable and solid, quite easy with a little practice to get right. The 3rd had quite a ropey neck and was really good for learning how to get my saddle height/neck tension/action all balanced etc. Once I had it dialed in, it has remained stable since and plays nicely.
These 3 necks feel way too good for the price to be honest. Almost makes you feel guilty for enjoying it so much.
I have one of those natural finish '75 Jazz knockoffs. I'm not crazy about the neck and the pickups sound a little thin but it's still fun to play.
I love my SX. I don't just own an SX bass, but an electric and acoustic guitar.

It's the tiger flame P-bass with the covers I added later.
I really want one of these though to have a Jazz-like something in my arsenal.

I gotta admit to having looked more than twice at those pbrocker56. At $150 how far wrong can you go? The shape has strangely grown on me
I notice that Rondo have reduced the range of basses from their website, including the SJMB range.
Can't go wrong at 150, but being a poor college student out of a job, I cannot afford it
Not yet at least....
Oh yeah, they don't seem to have as many. But it's likely that Kurt is getting ready for a spring shipment and is just waiting for all the old stuff to clear out.
I hope the Jag bass sticks around though.
I'm considering buying the pirate bass, on account of how ridiculous it looks, as my knock around bass during my deployment. Of course, I have to wait and see if I'm actually going to have any real free time on this one.
I think the free scarfe that comes with it is totally enough of a reason to buy it ;)
