I got my butt in gear ,finally , but I had t loose another job . I was loving teaching at the culinary school but they eliminated 4 positions at my campus so back on unemployment ..,..but i have a feeling Ill get called back soon .
Im about 1/2 way through laquer job on this gal . Im pretty happy with my tape job. I loved the look of BassIV headstock but did not want to remove any more old crackle finish than I already have. Now its on to the pups and i may even do the green dye on the old starfireII, If i can just find the fugger.......

Wow, that's a beautiful chunk of wood!

I really did not want another project but this was a buy. When I got it I cleaned it. I usually leave the ol mojo be but I knew that black burst was hiding some nice grain . Its not straight(which I like) and is one plank . the front has a nice knot that is covered by the PG. . If i started from scratch with thAt board, i would have flipped it and put the controls on the back. I was able to salvage some crackle on the front side and at both ends of the neck and the front of the headstock . This is the point I get anxious so Im determined to finish the rest of the clear, let it hang for a month or 2 and do it right, sort of.....
-
Man, the front is fantastic but the backside is just killer - you gotta wonder why that was made to be the rear side? ???
-
I would say because the top was covered by the Pick guard. I stumbled on this 402 on ebay. Quite a looker!

Yes amazing wood, very "Tiger's Eye" like
-
Wow is right. That is a beautiful piece of wood. That old stuff sure can "glow" when finished properly!
Good luck on the work front!
-
Wow,
That's what I get for not checking in lately, beautiful. Much better grain than my Black/Tan ( well mostly black now )!
Starfire trans green ( cool ) but the 'burst would certainly work too.
Keep us posted!

Maybe you could cut a pickguard like this to show the figure of the top:

I agree. I think one of the reasons I never liked the 302 was its massive pick guard. A clear one would be cool too.

Or because they sounded like crap (I owned one)
???

I never heard nor played one, but I definitely wasn't a fan of the styling.

Mine will have rio jazz set to put in the soapbar covers so it may have a different sound.

Excellent!
-
The pups in the covers. Not too bad lookin ,eh?

What a great idea! A perfect way to fill up those old pickup holes.

Those look great. I am not a big fan of plain plastic soapbar pups. They are so ugly IMO.

Well, you could always take a couple of the Greatdealz chrome covers and drill them out ;D
-
I figured Id have a hard time finding orig 302 pups so, not wanting to have custom made ,I figured a nice set of singles with a good reputation in some close looking covers would keep it authentic.
The greatdealz covers would be awesome .... then I could paint it blue n'orange or pink
