I would go as far as to say FUGLY! :P
it was after all his first and we have all seen worse. :o
Woof! I think I just threw up alittle in my own mouth........ :-X
We should all pray that there is only one of these and that it will head off to a lonely extinction soon.
Thank goodness Gibson always got it right!
Maybe this will will help

Joe Zon builds some very nice sounding basses even if they aren't all that attractive (at least to me). Considering this one was his first effort at age 18, I can forgive him for the misshapen body and the obvious experimenting with the electronics.
Humble beginnings!
Not to everyone's taste, but he's made some slight advances ;D

Oh wow! Those tuners had caught my eye recently when I was searching for something else:

(at least I think those are the same ones)
Very cool application of them!
Looks like an early prototype for this:

That thing is so endearingly ugly, it touches my heart! probably sounds great though.
On a related note: I like Manring's lyrical style and I use harmonics when playing melodic stuff too, but his rushing to the headstock to the hipshot tuners (oviously four of them) is a silly little circus stunt in that first vid. All credit to his playing elsewhere though.
