Ginger Baker: "Cream will never reunite" (http://travellingunderground.blogspot.com/2008/11/ginger-baker-cream-will-never-reunite.html)
He obviously still has a big problem with Jack.
QuoteThe good news for Cream fans, however, is that Baker and Bruce will be performing together next month at the Zildjian Drummers Achievement Awards, taking place at London's Shepherds Bush Empire on 7 December.
So Bruce plays too loud, Baker can't hear, and won't do a Cream gig, but then does this anyway? Man, those drugs in the '60s must be lingering on... ???
When I heard last week that they were doing that awards gig in December, I thought maybe things were changing. This article clearly shows that is not so.
I take that with a pinch of salt. Bruce's backline isn't that huge, his bass sound on the live recordings not that "big" and Baker could wear earplugs. Clapton too wrote that the MSG shows were a disaster in his bio - did anybody from here see them or know someone who did? I thought the Albert Hall stuff was fine - judging from the official vid - though Clapton apparently suffered from the flu at that time.
I think Pedro went to one of the MSG shows. I just dropped him a line.
I went to the show at MSG and they sounded great. No problems from my POV. I have read though that Baker and Bruce were at it again behind the scenes. My feeling is that Baker and Bruce just must have personalities that clash. But I also have a feeling that Baker resents the fact that he put Cream together but that Bruce made much more money as a result of his songwriting, etc. I think Clapton probably sees it as he having done his good deed and doesn't want to put up with the friction between Bruce and Baker.
My opinion.
Yes, Clapton says that in his bio, he wanted to tie up loose ends and also felt responsibility for Ginger's and Jack's pensions. It is something he thought up during his psychotherapy years.
Ginger will be 70 next summer. Time to retire I guess.
CREAM oughta play L.A. again before callin' it quits forever.
Woulda been coool if they did it this year, 40 years after my first concert at age 15 in 1968, when Deep Purple opened & CREAM fokking ROCKED the Forum!!!
Those 2 guys will never get along, grudges run too deep. They reunited, it was really fun and took us all back. I expect no more out of them than that.
Besides, life is too short to play with people you can't stand.
