Here's the first proto:

Well, it certainly looks nice, but what's the story on it? Did I miss it or just forget? Is this strictly "for the 'Birds" or part of a larger project?
This is for 60's Birds, anyone who wants one can put their order in. This is the first prototype. The final pieces will be nickel plated and polished up real nice. It's essentially a project Scott (godofthunder) and I dreamed up for our basses. It'll be a nice companion to his bridge. I'll be able to sell 'em for $80 plus shipping once I place the final order. I'm up to 20 pieces as of today. A minimum order from the machine shop is 20, so I can add more, but once that's done, I can only go back for 20 or more after that.
Just curious (thinking about possibilities for a future project), what's the string spacing?
The e to g spacing is 2.25" with:
e to a = 3/4"
a to d = 11/16"
d to g = 3/4"
These specs are right off of an original 60's tailpiece I got form Scott, so it's right on with the Gibson specs.
Let me know if you'd like one.
Credit for making this happen goes to Bill. I would like to than my bother in law Michael for loaning me his '64 Thunderbird so Bill had a pattern for his machinist. They look fantastic btw !
Very Nice !
Thanks guys, I'll put an order in by Friday.
Like I said, I'll take four. Not sure for what (you don't really lose tailpieces, at least I don't), but I'll come up with something someday.
Uwe
Yeah, I'll probably want one, too. Like Uwe said... :-\

Thanks for checking, but I would be looking for something narrower, like Rick spacing.
Adultry again, Herr Moderator? ::)
No, wasn't planning on a Rick-style project, but I do want narrower spacing. Remember that Les Paul flattop faded I got and returned because of the awful finish? That was great to play -- long scale, narrower spacing like the EB-0L but with a much better neck profile and better balance.

You're in for one.
I wonder if the Back ones will be like that?
If not I would think you want one of these.

Makes sense. I'm hoping my shop will let me order a few extras without fronting the money first! We'll see.
Oh Uwe, I still have you down for 4. Thanks!
I'm pretty sure I said I wanted either two or three. Whatever you have down, I'm still in. BTW, it looks GREAT!

Yep, I have you down for two George. If I make some extras, I'll let you know.
Im in for 2 if its not too late.M
Are these CNC machined or hand tooled?
Put me down for one. Thanks.
I talked to my machinist and he said 3 weeks for the tailpieces. So, in about 2 weeks I'll be hitting you all that want 'em up for payment. I'll be in touch!
Here's an update. The pieces are cut from the stainless stock and will be grooved and drilled this week. Then, off to the nickel plater's after that. I'll keep you all posted as to their progress.
Here's the unfinished prototype mounted on my NR.............
